Last Wednesday you spent watching Netflix Wednesday, A show about Wednesday Addams, the teenage daughter of the Addams family.
Wednesday (Show, not girl) takes Wednesday (girl, not Show) to a funky goth boarding school for “outcasts” where she gets caught many of the plot. From old murders involving her parents, to bizarre deaths around the small town of Jericho, Vermont, to love triangles and high school cliques to tensions between “outcasts” and “regulars.” , Wednesday (the show, not the girls) packs a lot into its eight-episode first season.
It makes sense that there are some unanswered questions, potential second season open issues.
[Ed. note: This post contains major spoilers for Netflix’s Wednesday.]
Why are Morticia and Wednesday not on good terms?
from that moment Wednesday begins, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) and her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) No Get along. This seems to go all the way back to a simple teenage rebellion. I don’t want to be like mom on Wednesdays! But Wednesday doesn’t want to be like her mother, as she’s a mother and a housewife who loves her husband so much, referring to goth queen Morticia Adams as the epitome of traditional femininity. If you think about it, I have a lot of questions for you.
By mid-season, Morticia and Wednesday came to a shaky and tentative understanding. But their crumbling relationship is one of many plot points that this first season deals with, especially since it also has to do with the mysterious murder Morticia and Gomez were involved in when they were teenagers.
What is this cult that Bianca’s mom belongs to?
One of the coolest characters from an aesthetic and worldbuilding standpoint is Bianca the Siren, played by Joy Sunday. She’s the school’s queen bee and fencing champion, and has very cool white-blue glowing eyes. We also find that sirens can force people to do their bidding, which hasn’t really been explored much (because the show explores a lot). What we do know about Bianca’s siren powers is that her ex-boyfriend Xavier (Percy Hines White) thinks she used them on him.
We also find out that Bianca has run away from home. Because her mother is married to a cult leader who is trying to use her siren powers to indoctrinate more members. This cult masquerades as a self-help app, but is actually designed to trick you out of money. Bianca managed to persuade her mother to let her graduate first in her grades. This is in reality she only appears in one episode, but there is no doubt that she will appear in the fictional season 2 as it is a very fleshy plot her point. Under the carpet!
Who is Xavier’s father?
Bianca’s ex-boyfriend and one of the points of Wednesday’s love triangle is the tortured artist Xavier Thorpe. His father was a famous stage magician and psychic. many of Daddy Issues™. He doesn’t like people comparing him to his father, but he always talks about his father, and given Daddy Thorpe’s fame, it’s likely he’ll actually make an appearance.
Will Tyler come back?
Speaking of love triangles, other It turns out that the love interest, soft-boy barista Tyler (Hunter Doohan) — an objectively better love interest — is actually the killer creature known as Hyde! responsible for all of the mysterious deaths! Now technically he was being controlled and taken advantage of by Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci). Marilyn Thornhill is the descendant of fanatical pilgrims who founded the town of Jericho and wanted to kill all the outcasts. mosquito?
When I last saw him, he was undergoing psychiatric treatment. So he’s not dead. But were his feelings for Wednesday all lies from the beginning? Because they were so cute! Also, can we find out more about his mysterious mother? There are a lot of loose ends when it comes to Tyler, and it’s a shame to push him away.
Who is stalking on Wednesday?
In one of the final scenes of season one, Wednesday opens a mysterious envelope containing a candid photo of her. It’s still there, able to take a picture of her on the last day of school (they all had to go home because of the #tragedy that happened), and take a bizarre revenge against her Someone you’ve already met on the show or is it a new character? We’ll have to wait to find out.
What exactly is Gomez’s ability to banish?
So we know it because every student at Nevermore Academy is a pariah and it was a big deal that Marilyn Thornhill was the first regular in the school’s hallowed halls. And most outcasts fall into familiar fantasy beings, such as werewolves and vampires. Unless you have more singular powers like Wednesday and Morticia’s psychic powers or Xavier’s art.
Former Nevermore student Gomez (Luis Guzman) must have had some power. But you never know what it is! Perhaps something to explore in the future. The Addams Family itself didn’t make much of a show on the show, so there’s a lot to explore later.
What was Edgar Allan Poe’s banished ability?
One of Nevermore’s most acclaimed alumni was writer Edgar Allan Poe. And since all Nevermore students and alumni are exiled, that means Poe definitely had power.
What Makes an Outcast?
Great question. Despite an entire season focusing on the tension of the Nomi Outkast, we really don’t really know. Are they just magical beings? But what about Wednesday when she didn’t tell anyone she had powers when she entered? Should I dress in black and enjoy the spookiness? What about Enid (Emma Myers), the feisty werewolf who likes teeth What are the criteria?
It’s one thing to leave it deliberately vague for school hijinks, but clarify those definitions when the whole crux of the plot depends on what’s normal and what’s outcast. It makes more sense.
What do the rest of the world think about werewolves, vampires, etc.?
Is it only the town of Jericho that hates outcasts? Xavier’s father is a famous magician, so some might like him to be a rogue. We will see how far this prejudice extends.
Where does the Adams family live?
The main reason I ask this is because in a Broadway musical they live a mundane life in the middle of Central Park.
