As long as humans know combat, they understand the value of a reliable arsenal. For video games, The “rule of cool” often wins beyond practicality. Most players don’t have to worry about how impractical a suit of armor can be.
I’m not saying character designers should abandon all complex designs to maintain historical accuracy, but the goal is to create something that doesn’t break immersion too quickly. Whether it’s too big to work or a danger to the wearer, some armor sets just don’t hold up in real-world scenarios.
10/10 Burgoat armor appears motionless
elden ring
As you would expect from an open world game, freedom of choice is just one of many tools at the player’s disposal. elden ring shows it nicely. The Bull-Goat armor set is a favorite among millions of players who have already witnessed the countless variety of builds and outfits the game has to offer. Unfortunately, Burgoat is not really worth it.
The problem lies in the horns sticking out of the chest plate. It is designed after the rolling sheep seen in The Lands Between. For humans, the Bull-Goat armor set is a clunky addition that is mostly useless. On the other hand, the modified form remains the superior version.
9/10 Nightmare armor is itself Nightmare
soul calibur
soul calibur teeth Unique among fighting games In contrast to the hand-to-hand combat style that dominates the industry, its fighters do it openly through the martial arts of their weapons. The same goes for Nightmare, the series antagonist and wielder of the cursed blade Soul Edge.
The Nightmare armor looks nice at first glance, but upon closer inspection there are some obvious problems with its construction. First of all, he has strange curls at the ends of his greaves that make him look difficult to walk on. Also, the horns on the helmet can be a big obstacle in close combat.
8/10 The Diablos armor set has a demonic appearance
monster hunter rise
of monster hunter The franchise is famous and infamous for its supreme arsenal of famous monster hunters, who use body parts from quarries to create weapons and armor. monster hunter riseDiablos continues to terrorize his victims everywhere with an overly bulky and spiky armor set that the blacksmith builds on his body.
It’s not hard to imagine someone who makes a living fighting giant creatures on a daily basis wearing Diablos Armor. Also, there are other monsters that have similar problems with their armor sets. What sets Diablos apart is his trademark horns that always seem to get in the way.
7/10 Spike armor is both a benefit and a liability
dragon quest
Going back to the third, dragon quest Spiked Armor is an overweight steel pincushion that reflects damage to the attacker when struck. It seems fine on paper, at least until it’s time to fight back and the wearer risks cutting himself with his gear. Surviving a battle is a miracle.
All in all, Spiker armor doesn’t look bad. There is even an image of Erdrick equipping it to show what it looks like when worn. The chaotic silhouette the spikes create and the lack of imperfections to protect the top of the wearer’s leg are still noticeable.
6/10 Bloodwake Island set has shoulder blade issues
world of warcraft
world of warcraft was near the top of Fantasy MMORPG Hierarchy Over 10 years. Throughout that time, many weapons and armors have graced the accounts of gamers everywhere. Available in the seventh expansion, Island Expeditions, the Bloodwake Island set is a towering and ominous armor set unique to the semi-giant vrykul race.
The armor they wear has problems with the pauldrons reaching up to the wearer’s face. Tall shoulder boards that only get in the way, especially when the combatant raises his arms. The Bloodwake Island set may be fine for races where you’re better than others, but you’ll run into problems when someone else tries to equip it.
5/10 Gerudo’s outfit is fashionable but not functional
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
For a warrior tribe, Gerudo really dresses the part in terms of style. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild‘s desert biomes are home to all sorts of dangers, many of which can easily cut through and chew through the sheer cloth Gerudo uses to protect himself from the harsh sun.
The Gerudo armor set is colorful and intricate. Link, at least, isn’t equipped for combat. The well-trained female warriors of the Gerudo Desert have a form of natural armor, but Link has no such advantage.
4/10 Althyk’s scout is counterintuitive
Final Fantasy XIV
The 90s stereotype of the honorable shadow warrior clad in nothing but black was, until recent memory, the textbook depiction of shinobi in pop culture. They were already clichéd depictions of ninjas, but they looked historical when compared to Artiku’s scouting set Final Fantasy XIV.
Named after one of the game’s gods, Althyk’s Scouting Set is built specifically for the Ninja class, but few people would guess it by looking at it. Scythes coming out of random points on the armor make it impossible to sneak in and can cause a lot of noise when lurking.
3/10 Smough’s Armor should stay on Executioner
dark soul
dark soul Famous for having some of the most iconic suits of armor in video game history, it still has a few select undead head-scratching sets. One is the armor of Sumo, a former royal executioner. His stout frame and agile partner, his Ornstein, The franchise’s most famous boss.
The armor’s trademark features are its fake head and rounded torso. Even the game states, “It can be worn by humans, but not without great difficulty.”
2/10 Falmer Armor restricts the wearer’s vision
skyrim
The most important part of any real-life armor set is arguably the helmet, which protects the wearer’s head from deadly attacks.basic version of skyrim‘s Falmer armor does not.
The biggest problem is the armor helm, which doesn’t protect your mouth or nose and doesn’t fully protect your eyes. The green dots adorning the helmet are often thought to be eye holes, but they are far too far away for humans or Falmer to see. On top of that, the base Falmer Armor also has a fully exposed torso and legs.
1/10 Better bad armor than ragged clothes
Tales of Arise
The only thing worse than bad armor in combat is having no armor at all. Tales of Arise There are numerous outfits and armor that the player can unlock throughout the game. His one such outfit is a tattered clothing set. It consists solely of a collection of loose rags and an iron helmet worn by the protagonist Alphen at the beginning of the game.
In a practical sense, the ragged clothes offer little to no protection, especially against adversaries who use magic to conquer the people of Alfen. , we don’t know how he eats or what he looks like.
