Mario games have been a core part of Nintendo’s fandom for decades. Mario as Solo’s brother has been around much longer than his own series and, of course, first appeared as Jumpman in 1981’s Donkey Kong.
Despite having his name in the title, the Mario franchise isn’t just about the Italian plumber. He joined his faithful brother Luigi in his first Mario Bros. arcade game in 1983. Luigi’s Mansion also has his own successful franchise in his series. Not just that double trouble duo, but also Princess Peach, Toad, Yoshi, and a slew of antagonists to bang your head on while jumping through the Mushroom Kingdom. Even screaming around the track in a kart can be very competitive.
Given their status as video game royalty, the Mushroom Kingdom clan is unsurprisingly also incredibly popular in cosplay (just recently our video team’s lovely Zion made that classic I ran into a character). Jackbotnik perfectly captures Waluigi’s character with his high eyebrows and menacing expression. Jackbotnik loves to cosplay as villains (he tends to “main” his Dr. Robotnik, Sonic’s nemesis) and has been a Mario fan of his series for most of his life, so Waluigi’s Cosplay was a natural thing. Steven’s take on Wario combines a classic look with a wario-fair approach to war that really suits the character. The cosplay was inspired by a YouTube series video. Mario Warfare by BeatDownBoogie, and Call of Duty. Steven likes a variety of Wario designs, but since he is a fan of the game, he decided to choose a design similar to it. Many of his costumes are painted or stained by himself, and props are Steven’s favorite part of cosplaying.
8. Luigi
Cosplayers: changeling cosplay

Luigi is often seen as the timid “sidekick” brother of protagonist Mario, but when Luigi’s Mansion hit the GameCube in 2001, it was his turn to become a hero. A ghast, a ghoul-capturing vacuum cleaner, Luigi fought King Boo and many other ghosts throughout the game trilogy.
Changeling is a big fan of Luigi and has cosplayed many versions of the tall Italian plumber. His favorite cosplay is Luigi’s Mansion version. Changeling loves seeing Luigi take center stage and face his fears. Changeling’s dungarees are his 90’s vintage his clockhouse purchased from Depop. Groosetastic loved Bowser’s scary and goofy side and wanted to take that fun side and step into his cosplay. They designed and created their own version of Bowser, with identifiable features added to the design such as horns, carapace, and color scheme. Groosetastic also king Bowser side of Bowser. The design of the cloak and tabard reflects this, adding a unique twist to cosplay.
