A Mass Effect fan found an Easter egg that had been hiding in plain sight the whole time. On Twitter, users Miss Snizabel commented on how Mass Effect’s opening has a very similar design to the opening spread of Top Gun, the 1986 film that starred Tom Cruise as a hot jet fighter pilot.
Casey Hudson, former Mass Effect director and current CEO of Humanoid Studios, confirmed the link, so it turned out to be more than just a resemblance. “Finally someone noticed this! I’ve been waiting so long,” Hudson tweeted.

Earning $1.489 billion during its release, it would have been the world’s highest-grossing film of 2022 had it not been for James Cameron’s desire to return to Pandora with Avatar: Path of Water.
