WHO won’t Want to be an NFL quarterback? Fame, accolades, trolling passers penalty flags – it’s what dreams are made of! 2MD: VR Football Unleashed All-Star is an upgraded version of Truant Pixel’s arcade-inspired 2-minute drill simulator and Sony’s original. It’s come a long way since I reviewed it with a virtual reality headset. (I loved it even then.)
Meat and potatoes in the title are the same. You have 120 seconds to march your team onto the field and score the game-winning touchdown. You must call the play and toss the ball. You can also play wide his receiver and try to catch your own pass, with a newly added twist. Catching dots off your own arm feels great, so this adds a difficult but satisfying wrinkle to the gameplay.
When you get tired of stock plays, you can create plays on the whiteboard and call them up in-game. You can even physically remove the helmet and return to the main his menu. The visual presentation is basic at best, but clean and engaging. Also, some stadiums have bad weather, forcing you to face off against your opponents in snow or rain.
However, what makes the gameplay sing is how fun it is to throw the ball. In real life you may struggle to create the perfect spiral, but here you can manage the perfect release every time. Seeing a big lineman in a face mask is honestly pretty scary, but working on progressions and finding an open receiver makes sense.
To increase replay value, this release features a full-length Exhibition Mode, where you can play every aggressive snap in a full match. All stats are tracked, including passer ratings and rush totals. Despite the arcade nature of the title, it’s a lot of fun comparing in-game performances to those of real-life stars like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.
All in all, this re-release doesn’t mess with the ball, and American football fans in particular will love it.
