In a self-consciously dark setting like Warhammer 40,000, you have to go out of your way to be seen as “a bit too much,” but Oficio Assassin Norm’s black-clad killers pull it off. They sound like something a teenager would come up with after reading too many Wolverine comics, and I love them. Underrated in the 40K video game, they join the ranks of the Execution Force expansion’s Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters.
The fact that an assassin is coming has been pretty obvious in previous teaser videos, but who cares about subtleties when you have power claws and a skull mask? The Gray Knight can employ four assassins, one each from his four temples: Kalidus, Vindicea, Krexus, and Eversole. Callidus is an expert in disguise and stealth, Vindicare is a long-range sniper, Culexus is an expert in shutting down psykers because they’re mentally incapacitated (invisible to demons), while Eversor is a berserker who simply kills everyone by overdosing on drugs.
Execution Force adds two more mission types to the Daemonhunters campaign. The Boarding action allows your squad to jump onto an enemy cruiser and disable its generators. The Tentarus Hive mission also lets you face a new threat called “Tentarus Bloom” across five maps.
Existing armies will also be enhanced with some new weapons and armor for the Gray Knights. they need it. Daemonhuters was a tough campaign to beat for the first time, but it’s tempting to come back and see how it pans out with a better understanding of how to keep your squad together and manage your strategic layers. Oh, and there were also four well-equipped killers and his one dreadnought, courtesy of the previous Duty Eternal expansion.
Warhammer 40,000: Gates of Chaos – Demon Hunters: Execution Force (a mouthful indeed) is coming. vapor and very July 25th.
