I’m always on the lookout for the next great city builder and more city developers than ever before. As Fraser pointed out earlier this year, no one actually big city builder But just because Cities: Skylines is an unbeatable champion doesn’t mean it’s creating a slew of smaller, niche builders with survival systems, historical themes, or sci-fi settings.
2022 is already an exciting year for city builders, with plenty of new games to challenge your construction and management skills.I have wandering villagebuild buildings on the backs of giant, lumbering dinosaurs that carry your city around the world. farthest frontieran excellent medieval-themed survival city builder from the makers of Grim Dawn, and frozen heim, a viking city builder that includes raids and RTS combat.And just this week, a Banished-inspired city builder Survival of Settlement We are out of early access for the full 1.0 release. It’s a great time to build.

We mentioned Frozenheim earlier, but here’s another Viking city builder entering early access in November. Viking country From humble beginnings in mining and fishing, to trading (or raiding) with other villages, it sets you up as the Jarl of a growing Viking community. The gridless building system makes your settlement feel more natural and organic, and you can build monuments to Odin or Freyja to keep your citizens happy. should be considered when assigning work.

I had to play the demo of aquatico A survival city builder set at the bottom of the ocean after the planet’s surface recently became uninhabitable. Although it takes place underwater, it has many familiar city-building systems, including farming. Crops of sea cucumbers and kelp tended by submarine drones could be grown. Naturally, it’s difficult to survive, as it needs oxygen and heat to protect itself. I enjoyed the demo. In particular, it took a break from building domes and resource pipelines to watch busy little drones and automated submarines hard at work.

Epic Games Store Exclusive It actually came out in 2021, but it’s finally coming out on Steam next week, so I thought I’d include it. Experience managing a settlement populated by humans, lizards and beavers. Yeah, it’s weird for City Builder to go, but its Epic page scores have shown a very positive response, so if you want to buy it on Steam, you won’t have to wait too long.
