Running an undersea colony is not easy. where do i start? where does the air come from? How do you prevent it from becoming a dystopian catastrophe followed by an underwater horror game? Devolver’s new underwater survival city builder Aquatico answers these key questions. The introduction here will help you avoid mismanagement and drowning in seawater when you start.
getting started
In Aquatico, the ocean is the canvas (and basically what’s left of the world after an asteroid impact). Biomes range from bright vistas of blue waters to dark, mysterious terrain as you go deeper. Send expeditions to discover the sea dwellers around you.
There are three types of units to manage. Drones searching for resources in the deep ocean and building infrastructure for underwater colonies, people roaming the oceans in robotic walker suits, and regular civilians living in pressurized dome houses.
resources, resources
At Aquatico, food is divided into three tiers by luxury and rarity. For example, sea cucumbers (I know they’re mean) are Tier 1, but cakes are Tier 3. it’s a cake.
Medicines, of course, are a staple of this world, as are the abundant materials we collect from the oceans and craft by hand in factories like plastic, iron, and sponges. Resources like these are essential for upgrading items through the game’s deep research trees, helping underwater communities thrive.
infrastructure
Infrastructure is how you generate resources such as electricity, crude oil, fuel, and oxygen, just to name a few. When deciding where to place buildings such as factories, pay attention to efficiency ratings. For example, a Sponge Factory should be placed next to an area full of Sponges, rather than just empty.
Also note that even though there are many buildings, they may not be economically viable. As your city grows, be sure to upgrade any buildings you can. No Otherwise, it can strain the production line and cause problems later. Not only that, but later in the game, you can get hostile attention from underwater creatures like sharks, dinosaurs, and even pirate groups.
Luckily, distant colonies may decide to assist you by sending people, drones, or resources, but ultimately they may want things in return. Please note in particular!
dome house
The dome is key to survival and success at Aquatico. Initially limited to very basic dwellings, over time as your community grows, the size of the dome available expands as well as the variety of objects and furnishings that can be built inside the dome ( one of the later domes).size is absolutely Huge!).
As you progress, you’ll need to think about how your community will function in the world you create. Would you like to create an educational center for the next generation? Hotels for other colonies to visit and stay? Will diners create more jobs and boost the economy? We’ve only scratched the surface of what can be done in a dome society.
enjoy your hard work
There’s nothing wrong with working hard to keep your colony running well, but remember to slow down and take your time to appreciate your work. Watching the world you helped build pass by is one of Aquatico’s great joys. So today’s bonus tip is to slow down and zoom in and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
