When Frey Holland is transported to the mysterious land of Attia, one thing quickly becomes clear. I mean, this isn’t just her new home. her playground.
Forspoken heroes are capable of amazing magically enhanced parkour, jumping, flipping, zipping and jumping around the world with incredible fluidity. You can take a closer look at how it all works in our new parkour details.
So what exactly was Frey doing in this video? Here’s a little more detail on the parkour skills she has at her disposal and how she can use them.
flow
It is one of Frey’s core powers and the heart of Forspoken’s parkour.
Press and hold the circle button to wake it up. In this state, Frey travels the world with incredible speed and grace. She will automatically jump over small rocks and ledges, jump over small walls, and do everything she can to keep moving forward in the direction you tell her.
Of course, there are limits. Using flow alone, Frey cannot scale cliffs or climb skyscrapers. Also requires stamina. To use the style well, you need to learn how to combine flow with Frey’s other moves and chain them together.
Think of this as the foundation of a system that controls traversal rather than the game doing everything. The better you play, the better you move and the cooler Frey looks.
hurry up
The Rush ability allows you to make your flow even faster with well-timed button presses.
When using a flow, a flare may emit flames for a short period of time. Hit the circle button when you see this visual prompt and she’ll spring forward while maintaining her fastest pace. Even better, you can also maintain her top speed while restoring stamina.
This is a great example of how easy Forspoken’s parkour system is to learn. Those new to the game will have no trouble getting around with the basic flow, but skilled players working in Rush can go much longer, farther, and faster.
Shimmy
Want speed? Shimmy time.
This move causes Frey to kick off the ground and accelerate. At the right time he presses X and Frey performs a short leap. Pressing X again when she lands allows her to continue dashing forward at breakneck speed.
It’s another stamina-saving move, so that’s great too. When Frey isn’t using an ability, her stamina recharges quickly, so a well-timed breath can help.
This is why skills like Shimmy and Rush are so useful. It doesn’t consume stamina, so you can run much longer than normal. The better you play, the longer you can stay in flow…and the better you feel!
scale
Flow can climb walls somewhat, but to go higher it needs to learn to scale.
This ability allows Frey to create a Phantom scaffold to launch into the air. You can use this to give yourself the boost you need to reach the top of structures or launch them to keep you moving seamlessly through the world.
It’s great to have this extra jump available, but do you know what’s really great? Speaking of which…
soar up
Soar allows you to climb even higher by performing multiple leaps in quick succession.
As the name suggests, Soar allows Frey to reach incredible heights unreachable with normal jumps. That extra height is a true game-changer, allowing you to reach areas otherwise unreachable, opening up even more opportunities for spectacular parkour.
It may not be the flashiest skill in Frey’s repertoire, but you’ll think you couldn’t live without it!
zip
Zip, but now it’s fancy.
Pressing the square button allows Frey to fire a magical tether. Helps keep you going in situations where you can’t reach a ledge, or circumvent scenery that can slow down your forward momentum.
Alternatively, you can hold the square to slow down the action and target areas you want to specifically pull yourself in. Zip can hook onto any wall, but targets specific objects found all over the world. , it really works. These allow Frey to swing forward or launch high into the air at incredible speed!
float
It flows, it scales, it soars, it soars high, but it has to come down quickly. what will you do? Use floats of course!
This infinitely useful ability allows Frey to manipulate gravity itself to soften his fall. In the air he can simply hold down the X button to slowly drift downwards at a controlled speed.
Of course, the application goes far beyond mere survival. It’s also great in general traversal situations. Floats can be used to easily fill large gaps. Want to go to the other side of the canyon, leap from building to building?
Just be careful – you’re still descending slowly, so it’s a good idea to combine it with other parkour abilities like Zip when traveling long distances.
glide
Water slows you down, blocks your way, and often contains many tooth monsters that try to use you as chew toys.
Unless, of course, you have glide ability.
You’ve probably seen this in trailers. This allows Frey to skim the surface of the water. If Frey learns the ability, it will automatically activate when using Flow on anything flashy. Just press and hold circle to start surfing.
With the speed and style you can travel with, every lake, river or ocean is an opportunity for a stylish showboat. Especially useful when fighting the aforementioned damp monsters. With this ability, you can run a ring around monsters, or, more precisely, glide his ring around them.
Forspoken is one of those games where the act of moving is itself a lot of fun. Traversal isn’t just going from A to B, it’s getting there with skill and style.
It’s up to you to discover how to combine these various magical abilities to achieve the feeling of “flowing” through the world.
You’ll be able to discover it for yourself when Forspoken launches for PS5 on January 24, 2023. For details, please visit the PS store.
