As reported by deadline, staff were informed of the shutdown via an email from Comcast Spectator CEO David Scott. “As you know, G4 was reintroduced last year to capitalize on the popularity of the game,” he wrote. “We have invested in creating the new His G4 as an online and TV destination for fans to enjoy, be inspired and connect with gaming content.”
Scott blamed poor viewership and a lack of sustainable funding as reasons for the failure of Second Chances. “I know this is disappointing news, and I am disappointed.”

The sudden announcement is said to have affected dozens of employees, some of whom weren’t even aware of the network’s shutdown until the tweets began circulating. He responded to the announcement tweet with the following:

Other employees found themselves suddenly locked out of their Slack and Google Drive accounts “with little explanation” after Scott’s email. Grayson added that some of the major content featured on the channel his creators charge a fairly hefty rate of around $25,000 to $30,000 per day.
Originally launched in 2002, G4 brought gaming-focused news and competitive programming to network television. It changed owners multiple times before being somewhat swept away by the turbulent tides of online streaming and YouTube before pulling the plug in 2014. Its reboot was teased in mid-2020.
