Our very own Mario Kart Tour addict shares his thoughts on the game’s biggest update.
Battle Tour, which launched about two weeks ago on Mario Kart Tour, brought new modes, a higher player level cap, an all-new economic ecosystem that removed gacha, and more. This all comes after another major update to him in March that added a new system for Mii racers. So is Mario Kart Tour better than ever? It’s complicated.
First, let’s talk about the obvious health and longevity benefits of Mario Kart Tour. Various caps have been increased, including player level caps, competitive weekly ranked cup tiers, and multiplayer grade caps. All of these give players more to aim for. The Player Level Cap takes a particularly long time to reach. My rough estimate is that it takes about a year of play. This will ultimately depend on the rollout of new tracks, during which only the most insane hardcore grind players should hit, but it’s proof that Tour has plenty of life left. Additionally, some items have also received changes and buffs, including some bad ones. Battle Mode is also included in the update. All good news, but more on battles later.
Then there are some things I’m a little more suspicious of. These can be good or bad, probably depending on what kind of player you are within the ecosystem. For example, the item point cap has been increased to his 4th unlock. The good news is that the cost of the 12 point cap ticket isn’t as bad as anyone expected. The bad news is that I think these aren’t given out enough and can lead to ridiculous scores. Sorry if I’ve lost anyone here, but Mario Kart Tour is a pretty deep game with some systems. Less confusion ahead.
Next I would like to mention the single player battle mode that has been added in place of some races. These can also be part of the weekly Ranked Cups, where the goal is for him to perform well on three tracks and compete against his 20 other random players of the same rank his tier. In singleplayer, getting a good score is important. This means having good drivers, karts and gliders on your truck roster, leveling them up to gain more experience, playing well, holding combos, and of course some luck when it comes to items and frenzy. It is done by combining
My problem is that when Battle Mode is thrown into this mix, it gets a little weird. The game offers bonus points for completing battles fast, but that’s not really the best strategy. The best way to progress is to stall in hopes of reaching the time limit (which oddly doesn’t appear), hold combos, and hope to earn good items and frenzy until the end. If you can do this, you have a chance to get a high score. It’s still fun, but it may not be the best way to implement battles in a single player environment. Also, some character-specific special items may have a much higher score cap in this mode.
Now we have to talk about the biggest change in the history of Mario Kart Tour: the new economy. Gone is the gacha element where players can pull pipes to obtain items. But is it really that good? Really depends on who you ask. Gacha Pipe was hated by some players, and I feel like many of these players left the game very early on. , offered a spotlight item promise when you pull out up to 100 items. Doing so earlier will cost you at least 450 rubies. The game now introduces a Spotlight Shop, with High End His Drivers priced at 150 Rubies and High End His Karts and Gliders priced at 100 Rubies. In honor of the current tour theme, there seem to be some items that change weekly. Along with this is an excellent set of items that are randomly drawn from a pool that changes daily.
So what’s the problem? Is it a little expensive? Isn’t there a lot of people who think? Before players could get these things for less (or more if they were unlucky), they were able to randomly pick up other low-tier items. These lower tier items are definitely useful for new players, but will become less important over time as the game focuses more on high-end items. Some lower tier items may be used a bit to fill in some gaps while competing for resources to use for valuable high-end items. There are more and more pipes firing on each tour. As such, players should fill out their roster with more items. Because most of the items from them fill those subcategories.
My concern with the new Spotlight shop is that in some ways it’s more predatory than a random gacha pipe. This is because the gacha pipe made many players wonder if the item was really worth their account. This is completely different for each player as the coverage they each offer overlaps. Are you going to risk Ruby to get it? Maybe you’ll do it for your favorite character. However, there are few elements to pay attention to. There are so many cool items in front of you every day that you can quickly deplete your premium Ruby resources by purchasing them with just a few clicks. is what they want with our pricing and packs!
My advice is to always be careful about what you spend your currency and resources on in Mario Kart Tour. As mentioned earlier, many items, no matter how cool they are, can have no benefit. We highly recommend filling out our community-created tracker list to truly understand how much value each item can add to your account. Or maybe you just want to have fun and get what you want. It all depends on your goals and what kind of fun you can find in the game. There is no one set answer for everyone.
We also need to discuss what is undeniably bad about this tour. That said, online multiplayer was quickly removed due to some issues with players losing rank even if they won. It’s a shame the battle-focused Tour didn’t even let us try this new mode against other human players. First, some challenges are multiplayer-focused, so you won’t be able to complete all of the challenges currently on offer. This may set back some players. These random item gains are not earned, as there are also new pipes that players can earn by playing multiplayer. Unfortunately, I sympathize with the developers on this matter. However, developers are fair about downtime. They provided some free Star Tickets that can be used to complete some of the Battle Tour’s specific challenges. Multiplayer is slated to resume on his Halloween tour starting October 19th.
The last thing I want to mention is that player rewards seem to have gone down a bit. Starting this tour will make it difficult for all players to earn rubies. Additionally, Ranked Cup reward rubies have been slightly reduced. Overall, I think this, along with some changes, is trying to entice more players to pay $5 a month for a Gold Pass subscription. In our opinion, it’s the best an active player can pay for because it offers the best value for money. We also want to support the developer for ongoing bi-weekly content updates. The only big negative from this is that we bring less rubies on each tour. More players may be persuaded to purchase more challenges to keep them going. Additionally, many players may feel the same about all types of high-end his tickets with new caps. My word of warning is to try to play smart because a large part of his tour of Mario Kart is resource and team management.
All in all, it’s still going to be a while before everyone fully understands all the changes that have hit Mario Kart Tour in its biggest update yet. The changes affect each player differently, but I still love this game and think it might affect some players who didn’t give them a chance to come back and watch it again now that the gacha is gone. I still think it’s the most interesting, deep, and fun Mario Kart game, and the next console iteration has a lot to learn from it. Come in with an open mind. You may be surprised.
