Microsoft’s File Explorer for Windows 11 finally has the tabs feature you’ve been waiting for in the latest update to the operating system. setting menu. Excited about my file explorer tabs (opens in new tab) Since I discovered them in a Windows Insider build back in June. With tabs, you don’t have to juggle multiple windows just to shuffle a few files. These files are inevitably lost during processing, hiding behind other windows.
I’m still not sure if I need tabs. I found it a bit cumbersome on Linux.

Tabs are on by default in version KB5019509, but they’re not for everyone. For example, there are some features I’m used to as Chrome users that aren’t translated. For example, you can’t middle-click a file to open it in a new tab. Also, I can’t drag the tab to another window.
If you decide to disable tabs in Windows 11, think again. There is no way to do so, not even in the File Explorer properties menu. If you don’t like it, don’t use it.
Other features include something called Suggested Actions. It scans and highlights text on your screen if it looks like a date or number you want to store or call. I know it can be annoying. An operating system that anticipates my every move could help in some ways, but this is one feature I would probably turn off.
If you already have the new update, it’s easy to disable the suggested actions. System > Clipboard the slider off.
“Taskbar Overflow and Easy Access to Task Manager” is Microsoft’s touted feature that gives users more space on their taskbar and gives them quick access to Task Manager by right-clicking on the taskbar.
