Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s story begins three years after the events of the 2019 reboot of Modern Warfare. Captain Price’s iconic Task Force 141 is now fully organized and, of course, another threat of global terrorism has emerged. With fresh mechanics, greater flexibility in how missions are completed, and numerous callbacks to the original series, Modern Warfare 2’s campaign feels satisfying, even as the difficulty increases.
This reboot of Task Force 141 features the familiar faces of Price and Simon “Ghost” Riley, Kyle “Gaz” Garrick and John “Soap” McTavish. However, Modern Warfare 2 introduces a new ally with Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas. This is a separate story from his 2009 Modern Warfare 2, but it reappears with General Shepard from the original campaign. His Kate Laswell from Modern Warfare 2019 and the PMC group known as Shadow Company are all returning as well.
Players playing as members of Task Force 141 face a test when a US airstrike kills Al-Qatara’s leader, General Golbrani. General Golbrani’s successor Hassan Jani vows revenge and teams up with an international drug cartel to transport stolen US ballistic missiles. Hassan plans to launch missiles at US targets, and it is up to Task Force 141 to stop this. The campaign will be a globe-trotting affair, with you fighting in locations like Amsterdam, Mexico, Chicago, and even parts of Al Mazura, the fictional setting of his Warzone 2.0 map. This gives you a refreshing look at mission-by-mission scenery: nighttime stealth operations, desert battles, prison breaks, and even an oil rig set piece that feels like a throwback to the original Modern Warfare 2’s The Only Easy Day. It’s a big change…it wasn’t a remake of it, it was yesterday’s mission.
Modern Warfare 2 adds dialogue options to talk and ask questions to fellow soldiers, giving the characters you play and fight alongside a little more personality than past games. , I was able to get Gaz to talk a little bit, so I decided to chat with Kate Laswell. This is completely optional and you can choose not to say anything, but the added layer of dialogue is nice. The chatter between shootouts was really fun and really brought the easily-failed side of her character to life. For example, Kate mentions her wife, a martial law that didn’t seem to be revealed in the previous game. There were also moments of Thorpe and Ghost and good-natured companions in the quieter moments of very serious survival missions.
A character introduced in Modern Warfare 2019, Farah will reappear as an ally in Violence and Timing, though it’s a bit disappointing that she hasn’t played a bigger role in the campaign. Post-release story of Warfare in Warzone. She appeared in battle alongside Price and slowly helped reorganize Task Force 141. But Alejandro feels like a good addition to Captain Price’s ever-growing team of allies. It quickly turns out to be a man willing to risk everything to protect from. cartel hands. The writer does a good job of conveying Alejandro’s emotions through a scene in which he interrogates a former ally. He’s the character that fans start caring about when they hit something. We welcome his return to the franchise when future storylines permit. .
Modern Warfare 2’s quest to find missiles and stop terrorists is as full of twists and betrayals as the original Modern Warfare 2 – a new and compelling story.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has 17 campaign missions that range from large cinematic-style action sets to dial-back stealth sessions. It has pretty much everything you would expect from a Call of Duty campaign. There aren’t too many big innovations added here that will really blow you away, but the campaign does include some classic Modern Warfare missions with a new twist, so the missions are a lot of fun. The game also offers some missions that feel more open-world than anything you’ve seen in the past, giving you more opportunities to explore different tactics of battle. , you can seek out the perfect sniper point to line up kills around you, while other missions can give you multiple paths to decide how to hit enemies or sneak past them. While this freedom isn’t as extensive as playing an open-world RPG, the added exploration and opportunity is a welcome change to Call of Duty’s usual driven campaign style.
For example, the Close Air mission is very similar to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s Death From Above mission, using a player-controlled AC-130 gunship sequence. In Close Air, you play as a member of Shadow’s company, who provides air support to Ghost, Thorpe, and Alejandro with his AC-130. This was a fan-favorite mission of Modern Warfare. Close Air offers an experience as satisfying as destroying an entire building with the power of an AC-130.
Another mission called Recon By Fire is reminiscent of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s iconic All Ghillied Up stealth mission. What makes Modern Warfare 2’s version stand out is the AI improvements. Enemy soldiers no longer memorize enemy movement patterns and hide accordingly, as they search areas for you more dynamically and find you much easier than in past games . Criticized Modern Warfare 2’s advanced AI in multiplayer beta, but the enemy NPCs in the campaign turned out to be much larger foes. Expect to do most of the work to kill your enemies.
Vehicle chase sequences are a staple of Call of Duty campaigns, and Modern Warfare 2 has one of my favorites. Violence and timing is another example of Modern Warfare 2, eschewing the usual linear feel of these missions in CoD games to offer variety and player choice. The mission has some fun and great moments, including a satisfying vehicle chase, a brief period of hanging upside down from an aircraft during a shootout, and a vehicle hijacking prank.
Some of the fun in Violence and Timing comes from Modern Warfare 2’s new piloting mechanics. This allows you to quickly swap vehicle seats or stand on the roof of a car to vault or hijack enemy vehicles. All these actions allow you to choose how you want to accomplish your mission. You can choose to stay in one vehicle, assuming it isn’t destroyed during the skirmish, or jump into another vehicle from a hijacked vehicle and make your way through enemy convoys. It’s the level of dynamism that injects greater thrills into a sequence that’s already a high-octane blockbuster set piece.
Although the game features much of the same equipment as the previous year, Modern Warfare 2 adds a new layer of crafting to the game. Some missions require light cleaning to craft tools and weapons such as mines, smoke bombs, shibs, and prying tools used to open locked boxes and doors. Finding the supplies to craft the prying tool gets a little tedious the first few times. There were also times when I wanted the Incredible Hulk to go through more doors. Nonetheless, it was more of an annoyance than something that ruined the experience. to get
As someone who has played every Call of Duty campaign and started on Regular difficulty and completed on Veteran, I was surprised that Regular offered more challenges than usual. Bullets can kill me, but a few stealth missions showed me how easily enemy NPCs spotted me, so Modern Warfare 2’s advanced AI could also be to blame. I played it secretly. Exploring during stealth missions felt more intuitive with the AI, but I was sometimes confused as to how the enemy discovered me. Their eagle eye vision may be a little too good, to the point that it feels unfair at times. It was a very humbling experience.
This difficulty increase highlights one of the campaign’s biggest problems. That is checkpoint processing. These were pretty spread out in some missions, and if I died I had to do most of the missions all over again, while others saved my place at a sticky point in the action. I died and respawned very close to the enemy who had just killed me, which was hard to recover from, especially in stealth missions. Sometimes it seemed like it didn’t.

On the PlayStation 5, graphics were crisp and everything ran smoothly. Personal experience may vary by platform, but I haven’t encountered any crashes, serious bugs, or performance issues. . It took me some time to find the rest of the enemies reach the checkpoint.
The success of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2019 left a huge shackle that the sequel tries to fill, but overall, Modern Warfare 2 is a strong successor. In early previews of Modern Warfare 2, I wasn’t impressed with the new mobility mechanics, nor did I expect the changes to have such an impact on the game. I was amazed at how much I enjoyed the freedom to tackle scenarios my way, including. It was the best time. It feels like Infinity Ward crafted this campaign as the series’ best hits list. Having surprisingly enjoyed the added open-world set pieces and new controls, we hope that these elements of freedom will become staples of the franchise. That’s the future of Call of Duty, and you can get behind.
