Dave the Diver, a quirky game that’s been gaining popularity lately, has a player as Dave. Dave is a spearfisher by day, restaurateur by night, and dives to fill out the menu at the sushi restaurant he and his friends run. The restaurant is located by the mysterious Blue Hole, a vast sea hole along an island with many mysteries to explore.
It combines the action of spearfishing with exploration, searching for new critters and food ingredients while diving. You’ll also unravel the mysteries of the Blue Hole, searching for new ecosystems and ‘mysterious antiquities’. It’s also natural to fight giant bosses like hermit crabs, giant lantern fish, and giant squids.
Playing in a restaurant, on the other hand, is a twist on the classic Tupper game where customers have to sit down and place their order, fast enough and correctly to satisfy the customer. If you do well at this end of the game, you can get a special customer to visit you.
Steam user reviews for Dave the Diver are positive, with 94% of reviews being positive. It may look like indie, but it’s not. I don’t pretend not to feel represented by Dave, a chubby bearded man with tastes that are at odds with his looks. For Dave it’s a diver, for me it’s a gardener and lumberjack. We are both majestic in our own ways.
