The Naked Gun is a great movie. Is it also a good approach to kitting weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2? (opens in new tab)According to some players the answer is yes and a new video shared by CoD YouTuber TheXclusiveAce nicely explains why.?

accessories (opens in new tab) Essentially, they are upgrades that you can attach to your firearm of choice, just as the name suggests. This affects its performance in some way, such as sights, grips, suppressors, etc. The maximum number of attachment slots for weapons in Modern Warfare 2 is 5, and conventional video game wisdom suggests that if you get them is supposed to be used.

However, some players are finding Modern Warfare 2 to be the complete opposite. The reason, as TheXclusiveAce explains, is that most attachments in the game have both advantages and disadvantages, and most of the disadvantages he focuses on three “incredibly important stats”. It’s because They are Aim Down Sight Time, Aim Stability, and Recoil Control.

Simply put, adding an attachment that boosts any of these three traits will detract from the other two to a degree that likely outweighs the benefits. Tradeoffs are a routine part of the Gunsmith experience in CoD, but the current design of attachments means that loading a weapon “really doesn’t give you any grounds.”

“Even if you try to balance these attachments by stacking them, you often don’t end up with positive results with all of these attachments,” said TheXclusiveAce.

According to Ace, the solution isn’t to avoid the obsession altogether, but to be selective and let go of the instinctive urge to load up. “Don’t expect him to have to fill all five attachment slots for each setup,” he said. “Often, just filling two of those slots or he’s three will improve the gun’s performance.”

In the video side by side there are some comparisons showing the impact of attachment on ADS time and stability, but it’s actually pretty grim.TheXclusiveAce increases ADS time from 240ms to 400ms I was a little taken aback when he said that targeting with would be “essentially useless.” It takes over 400 ms to decide which button to click. In a game where fights are decided by who hits first, it’s impactful. The change from base to minimum aiming stability is also evident.

Naturally, there are exceptions to the rule. Some attachments, like the early recoil stabilizer grips that work on most guns, have no drawbacks, so there’s no reason not to use them. Other attachments have distinct and obvious advantages that cannot be overlooked despite their drawbacks. For example, more bullets, and as my dear dad used to say, “more bullets are better bullets.”

It’s also possible that your playstyle simply overrides concerns about the negative effects of attachments. If your plan is to bullet hose every slight movement you see, you don’t have to worry about aiming your sights quickly.

Things may change as Modern Warfare 2 continues to evolve and Infinity Ward adjusts gun and attachment stats. But for now, it’s clear that moderation is really important for most players.
