Hello, I’m Jemima. Here he is the writer for Roll7. oriori world Expansion – find your flow zoneSo let’s take a quick look at how we developed the setting and characters, and how the city of Radlantis went from an underwater metropolis to a sky skateboarding paradise!
Let’s start from the beginning. When I started working on the second oriori world The first thing we learned about the expansion was that it would be set underwater. Based on the cloud expanse on the logo and the airship on the cover art, you might notice that this didn’t happen! But when we started, we were working on an underwater adventure concept.
The idea of a deep-sea skating paradise immediately made me think of Atlantis. Atlantis is a mythical city that was lost under the waves in ancient times. So while studying currents, tides, and various sea creatures, I especially liked Nudibranchalso known as Nudibranch), delving deeper into the lore of Atlantis. As a result, I read a lot of Plato. Because he was the first to write about the myth of Atlantis. I mean, when I started writing about his game of skating for all ages, I didn’t anticipate the need. Learn Ancient Greek Philosophy! It was pretty interesting, so I’m not complaining (and it’s probably the first time my history degree has really helped me in my daily life). , which is part of the reason we were drawn to the idea of skating competitions. The idea was that this adventure would end in a sort of skating olympic held deep underwater by the people of Radlantis.
With this in mind, we created the Radlantis Three. This is a skating crew that joins players in their search for Radlantis. Liz (the lead his narrative designer, writer, probably the coolest person ever) worked on Squid and Christopher Richt, and I worked on creating Professor Planks. We liked the idea of a hodgepodge team that didn’t necessarily get along, but was united by a common goal. They’re all explorers in some ways, but they bring different things to the table. Ika is an experienced captain, Licht is an astrologer and mystic, and Planx is doing research at a university…or maybe he’s just avoiding students! wanted to feel different than their base game companions, so they have a bit of a controversial energy. It’s still very lighthearted and fun, but it’s a bit of a change from the original crew’s “old friend” dynamics.
So I had fun researching and planning to create an underwater cityscape full of hilarious sea creatures and cool new skateboarding buddies, but then everything changed…
Midway through development, we decided we needed to change direction and move the setting to a city in the clouds. why? From a gameplay standpoint, skating in the water isn’t as fun as skating through the sky propelled by powerful Windzones towards bigger air, cooler tricks, and higher scores. I found it to be very effective in getting things atmospheric in terms of art style and map space. So a change of direction was called for, but all was not lost. I like the idea of flying ships. The character that was doing the workshop looked even cooler on the clouds. Placing the Ladrantis above the Ladlandia instead of under the sea worked well and also allowed us to maintain the angle of the skating competition.
What we needed was a new skating god to meet at the end of the expansion, a figure that reflected the new sky-based setting. Liz then created Gale Force, the god of wind and sky above Ladlandia. Gale Force is super fun, super lively and she definitely lives up to her name! She is a force of nature. We have also decided to include BB Hopper and some of his Skate Godz from his main game in the expansion. Since this has a lot of fun new characters to meet, we felt it was important to include familiar faces as well. It’s a different story from the main story, oriori worldit’s great that players still feel that they’re exploring a cohesive setting tied to the world.
Once that world-building and character creation got out of the way, it was just a matter of writing up appropriately silly dialogue and putting it in the game. We worked hard, but most of the time we were staring at a blank page or cursing the sky, so it wasn’t very interesting to read. He also worked with the art team to bring the environments, characters, and animations to life and send them into translation so fans around the world could enjoy the game. And now, many months later, you all have a chance to explore Flowzone, find Radlantis, and even win a trophy in a contest thrown by his Skate Godz himself…
We hope you enjoy this expansion as much as we enjoyed writing it. Bon Voyage, Good Luck, Happy Skating!
