2011’s Mortal Kombat reboot, aka Mortal Kombat 9, may become fully compatible with PS4 and PS5 in the near future. Fans got a glimmer of hope when franchise co-creator Ed Boon told fans he was looking into backwards compatibility. I answered a lot of questions about Mortal Kombat 12 and Injustice 3, but I stayed shy about them.
Will Mortal Kombat 9 move to PS Plus Premium?
The Mortal Kombat reboot was originally released on PS3 and was later made available for PS4 via PS Now. Currently there is no way to play the game unless you own the physical disc and his PS3. For Xbox players who can insert an Xbox 360 disc into an Xbox Series X and play, it’s a little easier. Now Boone’s tweet (found by comic book) gave fans some hope:
looking into it.

One way to bring Mortal Kombat 9 to PS4 and PS5 is with PS Plus Premium. Streaming-only PS3 games are now offered as PS Plus Premium classics. This means PS Plus Extra and Deluxe users are excluded. Of course, the ideal solution would be to re-release digital versions for both PS4 and PS5 on the PS Store.
