When a handful of Elden Ring developers took the stage to receive their Game of the Year award, they didn’t realize the invaders were standing right behind them.
The show’s final award was handed out in the final minutes of the show. For a while, it was the kind of perfectly normal and sincere acceptance speech we’ve heard over the years.Elden Ring’s Game Director , Hidetaka Miyazaki, spoke via a translator, thanking the game’s supporters and thanking fellow developers. He informed players that more Elden Ring is on the way, possibly as DLC.
As the musical cue was about to return the mic to Keely for a send-off, a young man interrupted the line of FromSoftware developers and spoke directly into the mic. Please nominate this award to my Reform Orthodox Rabbi Bill Clinton. Thank you, everyone. ”
The words stunned the audience, and those who remained on stage were having trouble understanding what they had just heard.
It’s not uncommon for other people at an award show to try to say a final thank you before walking off the stage. The young figure was dressed formally enough to disguise himself among FromSoftware’s developer mob. I focused on the moment they didn’t look back.
Ambusher’s remark lasted just 13 seconds, not enough time for Jeff Keery or the show’s director to intervene. The words first appeared to startle FromSoftware’s translators on stage, but the show’s director and cameraman were alike confused.
The person was taken off stage along with FromSoftware developers. Minutes after the show ended, host Jeff Keely said on Twitter, “The person who interfered with the Game of the Year moment has been arrested.”
How did this kid get on stage? Rewinding the tape, he appears to have joined Miyazaki’s posse during his walk to the stage (keep looking right until you see him).
No wonder viewers were perplexed by the intruder’s mention of “reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton”, and shortly after, from viewers wondering if they heard the phrase correctly. followed by a series of tweets. It’s not clear if this remark was simply meant to be weird and memorable, or if it was referring to inside jokes or anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, or all of the above.
The stunt was clearly premeditated, including the spoken phrase. 1 Twitter user Posted Discord Chat Logs It looks like the server reacts to pranks before the individual picks up the mic. “He’s going to shout rabbi when they’re done,” wrote one user.
Ambush brought a jarring end to an otherwise pleasant and announcement-filled three hours.
