chu chu charles
Steam page (opens in new tab)
Release: December 10th
Developer: Two Star Games
Launch Price: $20 |£16.75 |AU$29.50
Choo-Choo Charles is a survival horror about a troublesome train. A train with giant spider legs. I’m guessing it’s inspired by the numerous Thomas the Tank Engine mods available in games all the way up to Elden Ring. (opens in new tab) Up to Kingdom Hearts 3 (opens in new tab), and Choo-Choo Charles as a concept is pretty interesting, but it’s also bloody-looking. You may spend some time on foot to upgrade your and be better prepared. The final showdown with the bastard Charles. As far as I know, there’s no other horror game based on a murder train, so originality is perfect. Early reviews on Steam are also “very positive”.
turbo sloth
Steam page (opens in new tab)
Release: December 9th
Developer: Rainstyle Games
Launch price: $18 | £16.87 | AUD $26.55
Turbo Sloths is an apocalyptic arcade racer with vehicular combat, extensive customization, and sloths. Yes, for some reason all the characters in this fast racing game are sloths, but I’m not complaining. Sloths are great. The wasteland circuit is full of obstacles and air catching opportunities, but it also has arena and survival modes that seem to have a lot in common with classic Twisted Metal outings.Judging by the gameplay footage I’ve seen, this very It reminds me a bit of the highly underrated Onrush. However, this one has a sloth, so it comes out of the gate with a clear advantage.
Necro bouncer
Steam page (opens in new tab)
Release: December 9th
Developer: Alchemy Sheep
Price at launch: $11.89 |£10.19 |AU$16.95
There’s been angry trains and racing sloths, but now it’s time for necromancer guards. Novelty narrative guise aside, NecroBouncer is a fairly orthodox top-down action game. Kill bad guys, upgrade your skills, chain them up and inevitably end up dying a lot. Since this is a roguelite, it has a macro progression system that allows you to take over certain powers and weapons. Files next to games about Enter the Gungeon, Binding of Isaac, and Magical Guards.
Toges
Steam page (opens in new tab)
Release: December 8th
Developer: Regular Studio
Launch Price: $18 |£15.29 |AU$26.05
The most impressive thing about this 3D platformer is its art style. Sure, bright and colorful cartoon landscapes are nothing new to the genre, but Togges has a special flair for looking beautiful in action. Developer Regular Studio describes it as “a non-linear classic Collect-A-Thon 3D platformer”, although there are also some light puzzle elements, mostly involving block stacking and manipulation ( The playable character looks like a hockey puck). There are 7 big levels to explore and master, plus 30 bonus levels. Even better, there’s a demo.
Surrealism – Definitive Edition
Steam page (opens in new tab)
Release: December 9th
Developer: Dimitri Kozma, Orbe Filmes
Price at launch: $6.39 | £5.35 | AU$9.43
This is a bizarre point-and-click adventure originally released in 1999. As its name suggests, it is associated with the Surrealist art movement and invites you to explore a world heavily influenced by the famous works of that tradition. “Your quest for the surreal will be a daunting one,” reads the Steam description. Be careful, you might end up in a place where you can’t.” Ominous! Worth checking out if you like weird video games.
