With the release in the spring of 2023, meet your maker officially hands over the key to the apocalyptic wasteland to players around the world.

If you’re not familiar with the title, meet your maker is a building and raiding game powered entirely by user-generated content. Rather than designing his standard FPS experience, Behavior Interactive offers a clever toolbox of blocks, traps, guards, and more, inviting players to create their own experiences and challenge each other.

Challenges come in the form of separate levels called outposts, both building and raiding. These massive labyrinthine fortresses hide deadly deterrents around every corner. It also houses canisters of pure genetic material that must be protected or stolen to progress in the game.

meet your makerThe Builder/Raider dynamics are unmatched. Today we explore some of the ways to provide players with their own connected moments.

fair game

Any strategic multiplayer game (even things like asynchronous games) meet your maker — Keeping things fair is paramount. From outpost selection to gameplay, the team has made sure the base is covered.

“Often, user-generated content (UGC) games display content with a focus on the best work, perhaps through a rating system,” explains Creative Director Ash Pannell. “Meet Your Maker differs from this approach in that you see the outposts you build being raided by other players, which is much more rewarding for builders.”

The first-person perspective may be a natural fan favorite for shooters, but it was also key to keeping the gameplay on the level. continues. “For one thing, the claustrophobic landscape makes for a great sense of immersion. There is also an important rule: traps in the game are aimed at the player unless they first see the player and give them time to react. You can’t fire, which adds the fairness inherent in all deaths and leaves no room for ambiguity, so the Raider learns and doesn’t make the same mistake twice.”

stay connected

Outpost sharing meet your maker It means millions of people around the world can engage with your content. It’s a strong prospect, and the game works in such a way that a constant connection between creators and challengers can be felt, even if they’re not online at the same time.

“It’s very important to remind us that builders and raiders are both UGC on opposite sides,” Pannell says. Raiders select outposts from a world map marked with the names of all builders. Following the raid, raiders are also encouraged to leave tributes to the outpost by choosing words of recognition that describe their experience for future challengers.

On the builder’s side, similar social features also bring nice educational bonuses. You can bang your fist on the desk and it’s a realistic replay of a real person and it’s totally understandable,” Pannell said. “There’s nothing like watching a player fall in love with a clever setup you’ve built, or see him come back to see a player who’s tried 30-40 times to crack your outpost. .”

Meet Your Maker’s skull system also allows builders to return to outposts and collect resources from skull markers where raiders have died. Each skull displays the raider’s name, rank, and the reason for killing them.

“There is also a social raid feature where you can search outposts and play,” he continues. “Search for player names you know to access all available content at any time. This allows players to share content directly with friends, forums or the community. Social Raids are rewarded directly in-game It doesn’t give you a game, but it does give you replays and keeps your outposts alive forever.”

Meet Your Maker is primarily asynchronous multiplayer, but classic co-op is always available. Players can combine their creativity to build with a friend or join forces to raid as his two-man team.

constant evolution

A big part of the relationship between Builders and Raiders is to evolve the other side. Meet Your Maker outposts are not final, builders can always come back to the game and use the influx of new traps, guards, mods and themed block types added to the game regularly to create what they have created. can be enhanced and re-shared.

“Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and getting back to creating a masterpiece is an important part of gameplay,” Pannell points out. “With the Replay and Skull systems, we can analyze every detail of what we have built to understand what is working and what is not. We can build outposts.”

“Outposts have been online for quite some time and have their own progression system that can extend their lifespan,” he concludes. “There will be a lot of raids in your creation, but it was important to us to give everyone the freedom to improve. creates better content, everyone wins.”
