Robotics specialist Boston Dynamics shared a celebratory video featuring Spot, the company’s dog-like robotic quadruped.
“Have an uplifting holiday season,” says the robotics team in a message that accompanies the 90-second skit.
In this video, Spot 1 has a big red bow and obviously wants to put it on the Christmas tree. However, even with the robot arm fully extended, Spot 1 cannot reach that height.
Entering Spot 2 and Spot 3 puts you on a sort of platform that Spot 1 climbs. Spots 2 and 3 then stretch their legs to the maximum, bringing the top of the tree within Spot 1’s reach.
The robot then uses its arms to grab the bow and carefully places it on the top of the tree.
It’s both an impressive demonstration of Spot’s versatility and a disturbing example of how robots can work together to accomplish objectives. However, anyone terrified of Spot’s uprising should definitely watch the entire video. A surprise ending suggests that any sort of takeover by this particular robot isn’t too far off (in any case, anyway).
Despite the tragic ending, the Spot is clearly an impressive piece of kit. In fact, since 2020, Boston Dynamics has been pitching this machine to companies that want to use it to automate tasks like inspection, monitoring, and mapping.
car giant ford Tried robot dogs early on, use it to scan one of the production plants. This is undocumented and may change over time.
Ford officials were impressed with the Spot’s ability to handle stairs and uneven terrain, as well as its work speed.
In recent years, robots have also been seen in other roles such as: help doctors and patients in Boston, work as a sheepdog New Zealand, and dance at a baseball game in Japan.
