In 2022, many high-profile games have closed permanently. Some of these games have operated successfully for years, while others have been shut down after months of struggle. This is the nature of online games. Nothing lasts forever. Especially not with modern live service games that go into decline if they don’t make enough money to fund their servers. The endings of some of these games left us feeling nostalgic, while others were greeted with complete indifference, whose names we forgot long before the ax dropped.
Still, there’s a certain sadness in almost every case of closed games. represents. This is not to say they were all good, and at least one or two games in this memory definitely weren’t. But someone, somewhere, believed in them all enough to give them a chance for glory.
Here, presented in the order their closures were announced, we’ll take a look at some of the games that have completely disappeared in 2022.
hyper scape
Hyper Scape – Shutdown date April 28, 2022
Ubisoft’s Futuristic Battle Royale Hyper Scape (opens in new tab) is probably the best example of “forgotten before it’s gone”. Months after its August 2020 launch, Ubisoft has admitted that Hyper Scape isn’t good (opens in new tab) We set out to make changes, but failed to gain traction in a world already dominated by Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Warzone.

U.S. Forces
America’s Army – Shutdown Date May 5, 2022
America’s Army as opposed to Hyper Scape (opens in new tab) An astonishing 20 years of execution in many forms. During that time, he was very successful in persuading a directionless young man. be all they can (opens in new tab)Its unsightly role as propaganda didn’t make it a bad tactical shooter, but that might explain its amazing longevity (and arguably its success as a recruiting tool). The good news for avid supporters is that while the server was shut down in May, Private His Server, Mission Editor, and other offline features will continue to work.
(2/2) Thank you to all our players for your support over the years! We encourage you to keep posting helpful resources and US Army related announcements here.May 5, 2022
sabarium
Sabarium – Shutdown date May 31, 2022
Stalker-like online shooter Sabarium (opens in new tab) has had an impressive seven years, and it’s been twice as fun.Developer Vostok Games said in its closure announcement that “a new chapter awaits”, but the studio has yet to announce what it’s aiming for. website (opens in new tab) says it’s currently seeking a “triple-A shooter based on an ambitious new IP,” but it could be some time before that project hits the ground running. Some members of the Ukrainian studio were forced to flee the city of Kyiv (opens in new tab) Following the second Russian invasion that began in February.
new earth hero
Heroes of Newerth – Shutdown date June 20, 2022
League of Legends, even after being finally bolstered by Heroes of Neuwirth (opens in new tab) It maintained an audience large enough to keep it for over ten years. However, in December 2021, the developer announced that his Frostburn was coming to an end, and in June of this year, he was completely gone.
Terra
Tera – Shutdown date June 30, 2022
We released the first preview of the fantasy MMO Tera (opens in new tab) Way back in 2010, it didn’t knock my socks off when I did a full review (opens in new tab) A few years later, it continued to expand, grow and improve over the years, becoming a well-respected MMO. Gameforge has pulled the plug.youtuber game archivist (opens in new tab)We recorded the final minutes as hundreds of players gathered to say goodbye.
Project car No. 1 and 2
Project Cars 2 – Shutdown date September 21, 2022 Project Cars – Shutdown date October 3, 2022
project car (opens in new tab) Project Cars 2, the premier racing game to grace the PC, was removed from Steam this year due to “expiring car and truck licenses.” This is another example of the downside of ‘authenticity’. Real-world product license rights do not exist in perpetuity, and when a license agreement expires, you must choose to renew or relinquish it. And if the sale is unlikely to justify the cost (which it almost certainly would be for a niche, age-old driving sim), the deal expires. Those who already own the game will still have access to it, but those who miss it will be out of luck.
The news got even worse a month later. When Project Cars developer Electronic Arts acquired Slightly Mad Studios in 2019, he pulled the plug on the entire series. (opens in new tab) in November.

overwatch
Overwatch – Shutdown Date October 3, 2022
overwatch (opens in new tab) It’s not actually gone. It’s just been superseded by Overwatch 2, which is basically Overwatch 1.5. Still, it was a pretty big deal, with many PC Gamer editors saddened by the loss and worried about the future. Weird. Should it be mourned?”
Kiriko Soon. Junker Queen soon. Esperanza coming soon. đŁ#OVERWATCH2 SERVERS GO LIVE AT 12PM PDT/3PM EDT pic.twitter.com/GuPF4P1pOHOctober 3, 2022
Warhammer 40,000: Regicide
Warhammer 40,000: Regicide – Shutdown Date October 14, 2022
chess, warhammer style
Unlike most games on this list, Warhammer 40,000: Regicide (opens in new tab) I just pulled the ripcord and it disappeared. No reason given, but it’s been around for 7 years, which is pretty decent considering these things. The good news is that Regicide can still be played offline. The bad news is the offline campaign mentioned in the 70% review. (opens in new tab), is “the weakest part of the regicide”.Fortunately for fans, there are literally dozens more of his WH40K games (opens in new tab) there.
Crow Fall
Crowfall – Shutdown date November 22, 2022
Crowdfunded MMO Crowfall, just one year after the live (opens in new tab) Shut down for the most unusual reason: to save the game. Developer Monumental said the game should be taken offline so it can focus on development rather than live production. There was no hint as to when Crowfall would return. The developer only said, “As soon as we have a plan, we will share it with the community.”
Super Bomberman R Online
Super Bomberman R Online – End of Sale December 1, 2022
The Bomberman series will (probably) go on forever, but Konami announced the end of this particular part in June. After a year and a half of low player count, it contributed significantly to a “mixed” user rating on Steam. The End of Super Bomberman R Online (opens in new tab) came out on December 1, providing even more proof that not everything has to be a battle royale.
Super Bomberman R Online will end its service at 01:00 UTC on December 1, 2022. Thanks to everyone who enjoyed the game! We’re excited to bring you Battle 64 (and many more) in Super Bomberman R 2! Stay tuned for all the latest news. pic.twitter.com/paEkNIBHWCDecember 1, 2022
Scavenger
Scavenger – Shutdown date December 16, 2022
PvPvE Shooter Scavengers (opens in new tab) It came a year and a half before the end was announced in November.we found a lot of things we really like (opens in new tab) However, like many games, it failed to find a viable audience. The situation may have been exacerbated by the sale of developer Midwinter to Dead by Daylight developer Behavior Interactive. After all, Scavengers, like other games on this list, didn’t make it out of early access before it ended on December 16th.
fuser
Fuser – Shutdown date December 19, 2022
I like Harmonix’s DJ rhythm game Fuser (opens in new tab) It was a sizable number when it launched in 2020, but was completely gone after just two years.Harmonix didn’t specify a reason for the closure, but Steam’s numbers weren’t great. According to Fuser, in November 2020 he managed a peak concurrent player count of 837. steam chart (opens in new tab), and since May 2021 have been plagued with double-digit concurrent player numbers. Over the past 30 days, peak concurrent players are just 34. Fuser is also available on the Epic Games Store and consoles, so it doesn’t tell the whole story, but it shows the overall lack of interest. Harmonix’s early genre-defining works, Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
Autumn of Babylon
Babylon’s Fall – Shutdown date February 23, 2023
Autumn of Babylon (opens in new tab) Lasting 194 days before PlatinumGames decided they had seen enough, it threw in the towel among “mostly negative” user reviews on Steam and an aggregate score of 46 on Metacritic. What’s notable is that it gave impetus to this totally chef-kissing line by newswriter Molly Taylor.
The game will be retired on February 28th, 2023.September 13, 2022
And a special case: Stadia
Literally All Stadia Games And Services Across – Shutdown Date Jan 18, 2023
In July, Google denied rumors of game-streaming platform Stadia (opens in new tab) It was closed. Google announced in September that his game-streaming platform, Stadia, would be shut down.Given the slow bleeding of the past few years, it was probably inevitable (opens in new tab) (And the fact that Google didn’t seem to be serious about making Stadia work in the first place) But even then, especially since Google completely denied the shutdown rumors, it’s honestly a bit It was a shock.A few months ago. The actual shutdown is he’s scheduled for January 18th, 2023, but we always have this completely incomprehensible launch trailer for him to remind us of what happened.
