2022 was the year OLED finally hit the desktop with the awesome Alienware 34 AW3423DW QD-OLED. So is that all? Need to nominate another screen?
No, not very fast. At well over $1,000, the Alienware 34 is hardly a mainstream choice. It also runs a rather mediocre native resolution of 3,440 x 1,440. OLED technology has many advantages, but it’s almost certainly not a perfect product. Not in the context of a proper gaming monitor as opposed to a flashy TV.
So this is not a foregone conclusion. One very serious contender is the Gigabyte M32UC. It’s a real 32-inch, 4K, 144Hz deal. Speaking of deals, it dropped to around $400 on Black Friday this year. Ok, usually around $600. But even at that price, this is one all-around gaming and computing tool that should look right at you for years.
And then there’s the Dough Spectrum, which has been updated with a glossy panel this year, and its $1,099 price tag isn’t cheap, even for a high-end 27-inch 4K 144Hz monitor. But it’s pretty special. Special enough to win the overall award in 2022?
