Whether you’re an existing fan or brand new to the world, Dragon BallDragon Ball Z: Kakarot remains a relatively accessible retelling of Akira Toriyama’s timeless series. It’s an almost exact adaptation of the material, hitting every major story beat and fleshing it out with some great cutscenes.
However, the game’s presentation can be a little bland. The fully animated cinematics I mentioned earlier are spectacular, but are often sandwiched between awkwardly static dialogue scenes. It’s likely going to take 40 hours or so, and obviously corners need to be cut to make sure all the major plot points are covered.

Of course, combat is an important part of the experience. And there’s no question that all play best on PS5. This current-generation port offers a 60 frames per second performance mode, bringing welcome fluidity to combat. More frames means more responsive controls. This is a huge improvement considering how quick combat can be. The graphical upgrades are also decent, with enhanced character models, environmental details, and lightning effects that make for a very beautiful game at times (if you can overlook the distracting muddy textures).
