We have always been fascinated by how humans discover many technological advances from nature. I came across a video of oysters filtering water.
In just 5 hours, a few oysters can turn a completely dirty tank into a clean one. In fact, it can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day. We discussed over lunch whether freshwater mussels could be modified to remove bacteria. We can ship them all over the world to build a living filtration system. (By the way, you can’t. Don’t do this in hopes of not getting sick!)
while fleshing out the details Atrio: Dark Wild, we knew we wanted an assembly line, but we thought, ‘What if instead of building everything out of metal, we incorporated living creatures? You can catch living creatures and make them do jobs that machines can’t. Just like spider silk cannot be printed, it digests to produce other compounds. Pushback will split the line for you, Tornado will pluck plants for you, Mini Deer will process new material and poop out, and Bees will replant mushrooms.
That’s where the tagline “catch creatures and add them to the assembly line” was born.
