Velan Studios has announced that its free-to-play multiplayer game Knockout City will be shutting down later this year. Naturally, all achievements for online-only titles will be retired.
According to game director Jeremy Russo’s blog post, Season 9 will be the game’s final season, and on June 6, 2023, Knockout City’s servers will shut down, making the game unplayable and discontinuing its achievements.
Knockout City Server Shutdown Set for June 6th
“Today we announce that Season 9 will be Knockout City’s final season,” said Russo. Said“And on the morning of June 6th, 2023, more than two years after the initial launch, all servers around the world will be shut down, making the game unplayable. This is very important to us.” It was a difficult decision, but a necessary and important one for our studio.”
Knockout City was released for Xbox in May 2021, but Russo said the game failed to find a large enough audience to be sustainable. “Even though he has over 12 million players and billions of KOs worldwide, in some aspects the game has enough players to be sustainable. We need a big mess to attract and keep ,” said Russo. “Being a small indie studio, it’s just not possible to make this kind of systemic change in a live game while still supporting it. It became clear that Velan is doing its best through innovation.”
When the servers shut down on June 6th, all 50 Knockout City achievements will be retired. On paper, the list looks very tricky: Daily Doer’s accomplishments and a few other cumulative accomplishments require a lot of dedication. It is suggested that it takes 80 hours.
This announcement comes on the heels of the demise of the Rumbleverse. Earlier this week, Epic announced that he would be shutting down his free-to-play brawler Rumbleverse in February. If you’re looking for something decent and free to play, check out our list of the best free Xbox games.
