Good to be back in the Zone! This is Blake from Ironwood Studios. Let me show you a little more of what’s happening in the wilds of Pacific Drive.
Living within walls is very dangerous. When you step out of the old car factory, you’ll have to rely on your trusty station wagon. Always fill up with gas before heading out on each trip to the Zone. Emptying the tank is a good way to end the worst. Explore winding landscapes and long-abandoned facilities, scavenge for resources to keep your car running long enough to get back to safety. Break apart and use the materials you’ve collected to repair and upgrade your wagon before heading to your next destination.
As shown in the latest trailer, you’ll encounter all sorts of bizarre anomalies, most of which aren’t friendly. There is an underground hunk of metal that tears the ground across, shredding both earth and tires. Flying junk piles can sneak away without you even realizing it. To understand what you need to build to survive your next encounter, you’ll need to closely observe and understand these anomalies. Equip your car with gear to resist their attempts to end your run, and upgrade your car’s panels from bare sheet metal to specialized armor plates that protect against the zone’s worst elements.
When it comes to car mods, it’s not just fortresses. Add new racks to your car and install additional road equipment such as fuel tanks, wind generators and automatic parking brakes. You’ll want every little edge you can get when you hit the zone. Everyone needs extra space to store their junk on the roof rack, but a controllable spotlight, a lightning rod to keep the battery charged when a little storm hits, or based on some experimental tech I found You can also attach classified gadgets to your run.
As you chart your zones, each expedition goes deeper and deeper behind the wall. Your journey takes you over difficult terrain. Each area has a suite of nightmarish anomalies. With these new risks come new rewards. Certain resources can only be found in dangerous places. Make sure your car is suitable for the job. If you’re headed into marshy mud, you’ll need to replace your wheels with ones that can handle mud and water. A roof-mounted light that illuminates the road ahead becomes very important if you have to traverse an eternally dark valley. And if you’re anything like me, you might find yourself getting struck by lightning all too often.A high-tech engine upgrade can fix the “can’t get out of here fast enough” problem pretty quickly. I will solve it.
Speaking of terrible weather and strange cataclysms in the Zone, we need to talk about Storms in the Zone. These maelstroms tear apart the map, reshaping wastelands, and do great damage to anyone (or anyone) caught in them. Radiation is a common concern while cruising through the woods, but when a full-force zone storm hits, you’ll want your car to hold up as you watch your dashboard melt apart. Better to overtake completely than to blow in between. you. Keep the accelerator pedal depressed and the car pointing towards the gateway. Each successful return brings you one step closer to escaping the Zone.
Scavenge for resources, explore abandoned facilities, upgrade your garage and vehicles, and venture deeper into the wilds to uncover the mysteries and urban legends of the Zone. The utopian hopes of strange new technologies may be gone, but their vestiges still remain.
Pacific Drive is coming to PlayStation 5 in 2023.
