Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct showed a bunch of great new games coming this spring, but it didn’t include all of them. KOEI TECMO America did not, and we want you to know that pre-orders are now open ahead of the digital release on March 9th.
The upcoming Switch game was a remastered version of the 2008 Wii title and was not released outside of Japan.
FATAL FRAME: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is set on Rougetsu Island in southern Japan, 10 years after the mysterious disappearance of five girls at the Moonlight Festival. When the bodies of her two girls are found just ten years after their initial disappearance, her three remaining teenagers—Ruka Minazuki, Misaki Aso, and Madoka Tsukimori—are sent to a spooky island. Return and uncover the mystery of your friend’s death and their deaths. A vague memory. Players equip their obscura with cameras when they encounter the terrifying spirits that inhabit Rougetsu Island. This special camera can be used not only to repel ghostly creatures, but also to seal their power through photography. This is an excellent device that subdues spirits using the moonlight stored in spirit stones.
Today’s pre-order announcement includes the new story trailer above. The trailer also gives a closer look at some of the game’s mechanics, such as the photo mode seen in the Switch version of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water.
