Amid heightened tensions, the burgeoning resistance movement replaces regularly scheduled news with anti-government propaganda in order to dramatically change the message sent to a mass audience of devoted viewers. I am requesting that
The feeling of producing a TV show, controlling what your audience sees at home, and affecting the story and world of your characters was the experience we wanted you, the player, to have.
In a world dominated by visual media consumption, it’s time to take a closer look at the influence visual media has on us. And what better way to raise the stakes and give a keen sense of urgency and power than to have it all live? You don’t pause in real life, rewind the interview to ask another question, or avoid the barrage of ads. The experience, the stress, the fun, the creativity of making choices on the fly to tell a story and watching the story develop from the consequences of those decisions.that’s fun not for broadcast.
Of course, this presented an entirely different problem.
Our biggest challenge was shooting the footage as a single continuous take. “Live TV Feeling” reminds us that it was meant to have no cuts at any point… yes. Not even one. You are the editor here, not us. So the movie consists of just the best shots cut from all the takes that day, but you don’t have that luxury. Each scene had to be done at once—some of which took him nearly 20 minutes!
Our incredibly talented cast learns relatively lengthy scripts and runs them in one unmistakably one take in front of a moving camera where the operators must handle their own complex worlds. I had a need. Luckily most scenes were shot in ten takes or less, but it wasn’t uncommon for longer and more complex scenes to extend into his teenage years.
A powerful combination of planning, exceptional actors and crew, and very careful decisions made us do it. We shot more like a theater show than a movie set, rehearsing an ensemble of actors ready to roll to the punch of his performance live and react accordingly. I was able to create a successful scene.
This meant very high pressure for everyone. Fluff your line in 12 minutes? Do you want to drop the camera so it is out of focus? We all go back to the top. The upside is when you nail that one take of her, it’s done and you can go to the pub.
The format had more wrinkles in the form of long and complex tracks for friends dubbing in Russian and Chinese not for broadcastbut if you’ve heard the rap single “Paint It Red,” which was produced entirely in Russian, I think you’ll agree that you’ve spent a lot of time and money. A record-breaking amount of footage was created, a whopping 41+ hours.
Well next time you play not for broadcast, and when you get to a sequence that’s over 15 minutes long, think for a moment about the actors, crew, dubbing team, and team at NotGames who pulled off the perfect one-take action from script to setting. game. I will definitely do that when I plan my next one.
