EVO 2023 is less than six months away. which game (opens in new tab) Featured in huge fighting game tournaments. There are some changes this year as well. For example, there are larger prize pools across the board and a slight tweak to the traditional bracket format.
A total of eight games are running this year, most of which are understandably flagship games. Street Fighter 6 will debut in his EVO, and Tekken 7 will be his seventh appearance in the tournament. Guilty Gear Strive, Melty Blood: Type Lumina, and King of Fighters 15 are all his second appearances, while Mortal Kombat 11 will be his third. Dragon Ball FighterZ will also be in attendance, making his fourth appearance in EVO.
A surprising addition, however, is the return of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 as “the first EVO throwback tournament.” The game last appeared as a side his tournament in 2018, but has not been a main tournament feature since 2017. fan (opens in new tab) and Strong Points (opens in new tab) Understandably hyped. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 4, anyone?
Personally, I’m looking forward to Tekken 7 potentially being the last big deal in EVO before Tekken 8 comes out. This could be he one of the first major tournaments to feature Street Fighter 6 after its June release date. I’ve never been into 2D fighters, but I can’t deny that Capcom’s upcoming fighter is very stylish.
EVO is also trying to make prizes a little more attractive to participants. All games have a minimum prize pool of $25,000, split among the top players. Fighting games have never been the most profitable of all esports, but between this and the upcoming Capcom Cup, which offers a $1 million prize to the winner, things are starting to get a little better. Bigger games like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 7 can have bigger prize pools, but it’s nice to see a reasonable investment in smaller games as well.
I’m trying to understand what’s going on now. For now, let’s just say thank you.February 22, 2023
For EVO 2023, instead of traditionally streaming the top 8 players of each game, we’ve opted to stream only the top 6 players. This is all for efficiency and to avoid set overruns on-stream which is quite common.
