Obsidian is pleased to announce an upgraded version of The Outer Worlds for PlayStation 5 – The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition. Let’s take a closer look at some of the exciting changes we’re making to this board-approved RPG and how we tackled this task.
The Outer Worlds was incredibly well received by fans around the world and won multiple awards.
If you’re not too familiar with the game, here’s a quick rundown:
Lost on a colonist’s ship to the edge of the galaxy, you wake up decades after your planned date and find yourself in the middle of a deep conspiracy intent on destroying your colony. notice. Explore the different planets and locations of Halcyon, including the mysterious Gorgon Asteroid and the delightful Distillery of Eridanos. As you encounter different factions vying for power, the decisions you make determine how the story unfolds.
The latest generation of consoles came just a year after the game’s initial release. That’s why we’ve revamped the base game, bundled the available content, and taken advantage of the PlayStation 5’s latest hardware features and DualSense controller-triggered feedback to ensure it’s viable and relevant for years to come. It makes sense to have Hence The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition.
Here’s how the team did it.
Beyond visual enhancement
Certainly, improved visuals are part of the deal. We were able to update to 4K, 60FPS graphics, enhance volumetric lighting, improve particle systems, and enhance environments with increased asset density. We also raised the bar in a few additional ways. Smarter combat and companion AI, improved depth of field and reworked existing scenery, updated various weather conditions, and reworked character models and animations to create an open world feel. improved. Don’t worry. I dared not get to the heart of what makes The Outer Worlds great. There’s no point in reinventing the wheel, but fresh tires are always a plus.
That said, a whole new and exciting feature set is the DualSense wireless controller’s adaptive triggers and haptics. When using ranged weapons, players enjoy different trigger effects depending on their type. For weapons like flamethrowers, the player feels linear pressure. When firing an automatic weapon, the trigger kickback produces a pulse-like effect for each round fired. Also, for single-shot weapons such as snipers and shotguns, the trigger pressure effect mimics the feeling of squeezing the trigger until the pin fires and reduces resistance. Not only does the game look better, it feels sharper.
Strengthening Legacy
If the improvements already discussed aren’t enough to justify this new edition, this Spacer’s Choice Edition would make even more sense if it included the base game DLCs Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos. So we did just that. Now the experience is even richer! As an aside, I know a few spacers enjoyed the fact that this was a relatable experience that wasn’t too short or too long. Please rest assured. They exist on the flanks and provide a fresh narrative arc to enjoy if desired once the appropriate level is reached.Oh, and the level cap has been increased to 99 to allow the player to skill him in his tree. Added more ways to build characters from the seven branches of .
