Persona games about the struggles and experiences of teens are cool, but what if instead the series featured four elderly women living in a Miami house? It’s a pressing question that Lindgren is trying to answer in his upcoming parody game The Golden Girls Take Manhattan DX.
“What started as a joke quickly spirals into a playground of ideas, with the goal of exploring how much we can improve our skills and stay sane with our own unique sense of humor.” Pagano developer site (opens in new tab) read. “Simply put, this is Persona 5 gameplay put in the context of Golden Girls. There’s no reason to use that paintwork other than ‘how far can we take this joke?'”

The project has apparently been in the works for several years, with the site touting a playable demo arriving in summer 2021. But thanks to the trailer released on her Twitter page for The Golden Girls Take Manhattan DX over the weekend, it was my first time seeing (and many others imagining) what the heck this was all about.
Pagano’s website specifically calls it a parody of Persona 5, but there’s a great deal of Persona 3 and Persona 4 inspiration running through it. and Overworld feel very close to the old-school entry. I don’t know why it’s there, but I’m here for it.
I can’t wait to release it for free during the 2023 holiday season.
