The phrase “Super Mario FPS” conjures up a certain image in me: a custom Counter-Strike: Source Gun game map, or a very edgy Doom WAD bikini bottom massacre (opens in new tab)Something in the spirit of . “Tribal” Tattoo Mario (opens in new tab), Basic.Developer Sean Noonan Super 1-1 (opens in new tab)on the other hand, is a healthier and heartier concept.
first reported (opens in new tab) We described the Noonan concept in 2019, and the developers made a full release early the following year. Nintendo’s crack legal department seems to have granted a reprieve, which just seemed like the end of things until this week.On March 11th, Noonan rolled out an update to his Super 1-1, and a new collection, back. Added end tweaks and rendering updates. Here’s the complete change:
- Update project from 4.26 to 4.27
- Important project cleanup
- Added some new coin locations
- Updated all models, animations, textures, effects and materials
- Add leaves in the form of tufts of grass, small rocks and other details
- New and improved water (!)
- New and improved sky (!)
- Fixed numerous LODs
- Fixed many shadow issues
- fixed depth of field
- General performance improvements
- Improved character controls
- Additional game options
- Added mouse controls to in-game menus

I remember being ticked off by this concept three years ago, but never actually loaded up Super 1-1 and tried the game—it’s amazing! , equipped with a plunger-fired cannon that gets stronger as you collect mushrooms. This is honestly quite an inspired weapon design for his FPS that fits in perfectly with the Mushroom Kingdom.I also love seeing the 3D Platformer Collection game style design incorporated into his FPS—it reminds me of the incredible Doom: The Golden Souls (opens in new tab) WAD in the series.

shout out to x Violet Rain (opens in new tab) On YouTube, a three-year-old speedrun video included instructions that I was the 120th viewer. Simply enter the Konami code on the keyboard at the start screen (up, down, down, left, right, right, BA). It’s like a cute, perfectly linear Skye he level, reminiscent of many of 3D Mario’s secret levels. I’m glad I watched it, and my great struggle to do so made it all the sweeter.
