At some point, the effect of higher refresh rates should definitely diminish. But not yet.input Get Alienware’s 500Hz Gaming Monitor for $829 (opens in new tab).
The Alienware AW2524H was first announced at CES in January. (opens in new tab)But now it’s actually available for purchase on the Dell Alienware website. The 500Hz bit is nothing new. Asus has been promising 500Hz screens since his Computex. (opens in new tab)— but this is the first time we’ve reached that refresh rate on an IPS rather than a TN panel.
This is a 25-inch model, which runs at 1920 x 1080 pixels, given the inevitable refresh rate. So this is an out-and-out esports panel built for speed rather than pretty graphics.
In that regard, Alienware claims a 0.5 ms gray-to-gray response, which is an exception. Messed up? we too.
More specifically, according to Alienware, a number of 1 ms represents a gray to gray “extreme” response, while 0.5 ms represents a gray to gray “minimum” response. Anything is fine. Without a doubt, this is a very quick panel by IPS standards. But OLED panels still take miles to respond.
It’s like a niche tool. Then this new Alienware panel. It’s 1080p on a 25″ panel, so image clarity isn’t a priority. Still, it increases IPS, which means image quality. teeth important.
It then provides a 500Hz refresh. It has excellent latency and beats OLED monitors. (opens in new tab) away. But it doesn’t come close to OLED for pixel response, but I’d like to measure that.
Moreover, it is over 800 yen. ah.
In fact, this new Alienware panel primarily helps us see how fragmented the monitor market is. Considering factors like refresh rate, response, brightness, contrast, black level, color accuracy, and pixel density, you have to accept that one panel technology doesn’t offer everything.
Today, LCD monitors offer the best refresh rates and latency, mini LED models offer the best brightness, and OLEDs offer the best lighting control and pixel speed. But if latency is your top priority and the $829 price tag isn’t an issue, you know what to do.
