The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners – Tourist Edition is a 15- to 20-hour post-apocalyptic survival experience developed by Skydance Interactive. Playing as The Tourist finds you in a flooded New Orleans. Several rival factions vie for access to The Reserve, the perfect resource for surviving the apocalypse.
Tasked with roaming the streets in search of hidden caches and intel, you are sent to scavenge supplies, using maps and drawings for reference. Very limited melee weapons and ammo can be found during exploration. Combined with extremely tough AI enemies and weapons with pre-destructed durability, this makes for a nail-biting survival experience. There’s always a tense atmosphere as you plan how to take down each zombie you encounter and what path you’ll take to avoid other dangers.
You will collect almost every item you find. Because all produce useful materials when recycled at the base. These resources can be crafted into a huge number of weapons and ammunition (knives, bats, guns, etc.) in the workbench. Each weapon has a very different feel, thanks to the PSVR2 Sense Controller’s impressive adaptive triggers. We can also manufacture armor for protection, food for stamina, and potions for health in this hostile environment.
You will also come across factions, both friendly and enemy. Some are free to roam the territory, tasked with side missions, while others just fire. Being shot or grabbed by a walker can be a very scary experience due to the immersion of the headset’s haptics and the need to shake off the undead. Walker occasionally initiates conflicts between opposing factions or completely overwhelms an area, turning all his members of the group into the undead before his eyes. All this creates a fun and bustling world of activity. However, I found the lack of diversity in enemy types to be a bit overwhelming, with gun-toting members and helmeted walkers being the only variations.
Saints and Sinners stands out not only for its survival aspect, but also because it’s visually stunning with highly detailed models and impressively dark and dingy environments. It’s an amazing adventure from start to finish. Its compelling story and creative gameplay make it one of the most compelling VR titles ever. A giant step in post-apocalyptic survival and a giant leap in virtual his reality gaming, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners-Tourist Edition is a must-have for all his PSVR2 gamers.
