Like many recent Capcom games published on PC, Resident Evil Village (opens in new tab) Includes everyone’s favorite anti-piracy software de nouveau (opens in new tab)When it launches in May 2021. And like many Capcom games recently published on PC, the DRM has been quietly removed.
As Annals (opens in new tab)Denuvo’s removal from Village was first reported by the website, according to VGC dark side of the game (opens in new tab)then validated by SteamDB (opens in new tab)This tracked a new change to the game stating “remove 3rd party DRM – Denuvo tamper proof, 5 different PCs within 1 day machine activation limit”.
Whatever your view on video game piracy, Resident Evil Village’s Denuvo protection has created a more fundamental problem for many players. report (opens in new tab)The presence of DRM can seriously affect game performance. These reports were confirmed when Capcom released an update for Resident Evil Village designed to “optimize anti-piracy technology.”
Bundling the PC release with Denuvo seems to be standard practice for Capcom’s big titles, including Resident Evil 2 Remake. (opens in new tab)Resident Evil 3 Remake (opens in new tab)Monster Hunter (opens in new tab) All launches in the world with anti-piracy software included (later all software was removed). However, Denuvo has stayed in the Village for a very long time. The game’s anti-piracy software was cracked about a month after its launch, but it took Capcom almost two years to ditch his Denuvo. Again, at least Capcom intentionally removed Denuvo, while Warner Bros Games Montreal accidentally removed it. (opens in new tab) We added it after Gotham Knights’ Denuvo last October (which definitely helped that game’s dubious reputation.)
The Resident Evil 4 remake has Denuvo packaged, and some players have joined the game’s Steam discussion. I complain (opens in new tab)It causes a variety of problems, from traversal stuttering to save file corruption. However, at this time Denuvo has not been identified as the cause of these reported issues.
