God of War PSP and Order 1886 developer preparing for dawn Meta’s latest layoff has reportedly lost a third of its staff. Facebook’s parent company he acquired RAD in June 2020 to develop VR games.
ready at dawn studio head release
RAD wasn’t the only studio affected by layoffs. According to some (now former) staffers on Twitter, the Onward developer was pissed off at Downpour Interactive as well. Downpour will be acquired by Meta in 2021.
Thomas Griebel, Senior Engine and Graphics Programmer at RAD, claimed In a tweet, the studio head was among a third of the developers fired. It is unclear if he was talking about Ru Weerasuriya or Andrea Pessino, who co-founded RAD.
This is a particularly sad ending for RAD. Founded by former Naughty Dog staff in 2003, RAD launched the game Daxter, which debuted on his PSP in 2006. After that, PSP and he worked on the God of War game for PS3, and for PS4 he developed The Order 1886.
Despite gaining a cult following, The Order 1886 was not a commercial success. RAD released his last PlayStation game Deformers in 2017, which was also unsuccessful. Since the acquisition, RAD has been creating Echo VR games for his Oculus Rift and Meta Quest.
