If you were to combine DOOM and Hotline Miami to create a new game, it would be POST VOID. An arcade-style FPS developed by YCJY Games (sea salt). When this PC port arrives on the Nintendo Switch, it throws the player into a fast-paced, hazy and saturated maze where violence unfolds. teeth answer.

The goal of the game is simple: reach the end of the void. There are 11 levels divided into 3 acts. They consist of running through mazes like a madman, void-jumping, and blasting malformed monsters with bullets. The visuals are dizzyingly fast and jiggly, so details can be hard to pick up (seriously, was it a humanoid shark and an evil bloodthirsty Navis?). If you spend your precious time peeping around and trying to catch the perfect moment to catch your enemies off guard, you’ll run out of time and luck and die. POST VOID is all about speed.

Nintendo doesn’t have the best reputation or the biggest library when it comes to FPS games, but it feels natural and comfortable to run and shoot through this PC port of the Nintendo Switch. POST VOID does not have some features common to modern FPS. No option to customize the crosshair. Unstable, highly saturated, psychedelic visuals can obscure the small gray crosshairs, which can reduce accuracy. If the seizure-inducing visuals make you sick, there are accessibility features to help minimize the impact.

After reaching the end of each level, you can choose one of three upgrades. Want a shotgun over a pistol? Shoot more, reload less? Want to see your monster’s head explode right after it dies? The decision is yours, but it doesn’t matter either. Starter weapons and stats are enough to complete the game in one run. It all comes down to taste.

It doesn’t matter what you choose to protect your head. No, not just the one on the shoulder. You have an idol that resembles a statue’s head and acts as your health. If you take damage or take too long to pass a level without defeating it, the liquid will drain from the idol. When it comes to, you’ll have to die and start over.

POST VOID is short, but provides good replayability. There may only be 11 levels, but it takes a lot of skill and determination to pass them all. There are no checkpoints or save features, so if you die in the middle of level 11, you’ll be right back at square one. Demoralizing, but hey, POST VOID is inspired by old-school arcades, so the game’s unforgiving nature is apt. It is not. You may reach the end of the void and be on the leaderboard.

What’s after the void anyway? There are few traditions. The humanoid creature you play and experience the game has a fatal headache. He gives the “Flower of Hope”. Peace, inconsistent with the creature’s actions. The lack of lore leaves room for player interpretation.

The intense OST is good for head-banging activities, but one track for every level will give you a headache. During moments of silence, the illusion of sound hypersensitivity, such as pushing your feet through a pile of leaves or approaching a void, is a cool touch that adds to the experience of sensory overstimulation. is.

POST VOID takes you on a nightmarish journey (wink) to a place where violence is rampant. teeth answer. This addicting, adrenaline-pumping game is a definite addition to Nintendo’s FPS library. Although short, it offers plenty of replayability as void jumping requires a lot of determination, skill and speed. Or a nod to Scratch spending time to get a burst of speed without having to gamble all the spare rooms.

POST VOID is available on the Nintendo eShop for $5.99.
