Starting today, the Epic Games Store has, as expected, introduced a rewards program called ‘Epic Rewards’. No signup required to participate. Two weeks after making an eligible purchase on the Epic Games store, you’ll get 5% back in the form of “rewards” that you can use on his future EGS purchases.
5% of a $60 game is $3, which isn’t a sneezing amount unless you’re currently suffering from seasonal allergies like me. It made me sneeze twice.
As with all of these, terms and conditions apply. One of these conditions is that the perk will eventually expire, but the expiration date is long, he is two years after receiving it. (25 months to be exact)
It’s nice not to be under pressure to use or lose these Epic Rewards right away. Epic could have done this to encourage repeat business in a more stingy way. This rewards program adds another element to Epic’s aggressive customer acquisition strategy. This includes limited-time Epic Games Store exclusives and weekly free games.
Steam also has a rewards program of sorts, but no discounts. Instead, steam point (opens in new tab) You can spend it on profile backgrounds and emojis, or reward other Steam users with awards.
Epic is also chipping away at the massive sales Steam is known for. 2023 has just begun with this rewards program. Mega Sale on the Epic Games Store (opens in new tab). Buying games has certainly gotten more complicated, but for some reason I’d rather have this kind of complexity, I prefer things that save money in the end.
Meanwhile, on Steam, Valve has just introduced a new free trial system and sports games are currently on sale. steam sports fest (opens in new tab).
