It’s a connected underworld
just like the original Six inches under is a first-person 3D Metroidvania. It’s a unified world filled with paths to discover and secrets and sub-areas that can only be accessed when you return with new abilities and items.
Unlike the original, Six Inch Under takes place underground, giving it a slightly different feel. The path is clearer and clearer. The caverns and corridors are connected by a central hub called Cagetown, inhabited by all toy-human survivors of the dreaded Lakening.
The developer describes the game as “55% exploration, 40% puzzle solving, 5% combat”. Let’s talk about the remaining 45%.
Puzzle permeates everything
In the world of Six Inches Under you are always looking for puzzles. And soon you’ll find yourself thinking of the environment, your abilities, and even physics itself as tools for solving puzzles. To help design the puzzle, creator and lead developer David Münnich, as a guideline he created 13 rules. This also serves as his 13-item “checklist” to help him and his team determine if a puzzle is good or not.
David gives points to puzzles where the player sets goals for himself without being told directly, or puzzles where the player uses familiar mechanics in unexpected new ways. Puzzles score more points if the player can act on the solution as soon as they think “I see!” Whether that moment, or its consequences, is more interesting than a door opening or an elevator working. For David, a good puzzle score he’s somewhere around 8-10, and anything above that is rare. (And he’s obsessed. The best puzzles in the world.) Six inches under Top out at 12. )
That 5% combat… it’s over!
It takes another turn from the original game and encounters enemies to fight. Six inches underBut here they are hanging off the puzzle. That way, you won’t get in the way when you’re focused on finding a way to secure the lever, connect the battery, and power the machine behind the fence. I’m still not quite sure how to get over it.
Combat itself can also be a puzzle, as it uses pickaxes and other combat tools and abilities in creative ways. But like any good puzzle, figuring them out on your own makes them more fun.
the end is just beginning
You can reach the finish line of the “main quest” quickly, but when the end credits roll, a whole new beginning begins. A whole new area will open up for you to explore, full of secrets and surprises. In fact some of them Six inches under‘s most challenging and rewarding puzzles are completely optional…including at least one of the team’s rare 12-point players. (Hint: Look for shower heads on the beach.)

Six inches under This project started as a project aimed at setting the stage for the next major game (and full sequel) currently in development by the Supra Games team. supra world. It quickly turned into a place to experiment, test, and implement ideas on the wringer. The results were unexpected.
