My name is Eric Angelillo. Creative Director and Co-Art Director. Convergence: The Story of League of Legends. I also co-founded Double Stallion games 10 years before him, with a mission to create vibrant, transcendent experiences with players around the world. I love making bold action games with vivid stylized visuals inspired by the best animations and comics.
Convergence: The Story of League of Legendsis a new story-driven single-player 2D action platformer featuring dynamic combat and unique exploration, leveraging our strengths as a studio to take on countless champions of Zaun and Piltover from the original League of Legends. It gave me a great opportunity to adapt. Moba. With Echo in the lead role, it was difficult to narrow down the list of other champions we wanted to include in the cast, but we settled on Warwick, Camille and, of course, Jinx the Loose Cannon.
Ekko’s development started with one major drawing that I did of him grinding on rails. We knew that a game about Echo would have to double down not only on his ability to rewind time and his boy prodigy side, but also his taste for punk-inspired fashion. The concept in question had a strong graffiti aesthetic, pushing Ekko into a neon-soaked post-punk skater vibe. This was the basis for building the art direction for the entire game.
We chose to stay true to League’s Ekko’s classic design, but adapted his design shape language to include many triangles and sharp angles. A keen observer will even notice that his silhouette is based on the shape of an hourglass. His shoes have been modified slightly to allow for a stronger arch so he can grind. In terms of mechanics, we’ve adapted Ekko’s entire ability kit and parts of it.
Building a single-player game without PVP balance allowed us to really leverage Ekko’s ability to rewind time, and this naturally became our core mechanic. But players will be thrilled that his MOBA abilities (Time Winder, Parallel Convergence, Phase Dive, Chrono Break) are also an integral part of the game. In addition to faithfully reproducing these movements, we have extended them so that they can be used outside of battle. He can use Time Winder to power outlets, Parallel can use his Convergence to freeze time on collapsing platforms, and Phase his Dive to teleport walls. increase.
A story about Zaun wouldn’t be the same without a visit to the thump…and a visit to the thump wouldn’t be complete without its inhabitant, the Uncaged Wrath. Warwick. Warwick is one of the first champions we explored through his art in concept because he has so much fun profiling a biomechanical wolf. The size and complexity of his sprites made him one of the most intensive characters to animate in the game, but we knew it would be worth the extra effort. .
Regarding the moveset. Our animators referenced his ability appearances like Jaws of the Beast and Primal Howl. Also adapted his leaping ultimate. Infinite Duress, but instead of slashing him, he grabbed Ekko and threw him against the wall. Of course, Ekko can rewind every time…provided he has enough rewind charges left in his drive to zero.
Camille the Steel Shadow convergence. She represents Piltover in the game, acting as an unlikely ally to Ekko in his quest to overthrow the villainous House of Chamberlon known as the House of Pointedestre. Camille eventually becomes an ally, but things didn’t go well between her and Ekko at first… Fans will be thrilled to know they’ll have to face off against Camille in hand-to-hand combat.
One of the reasons we chose to adapt Camille was that her movesets in League of Legends had tremendous potential in side-scrolling games.Camille’s signature hookshot is used for quick lateral movement in League, but in action platformers like convergence, was able to use the hookshot to allow Camille to demonstrate incredible aerial abilities. As a result, Kamille dominates the arena with high mobility both horizontally and vertically, so fighting her requires Ekko to dodge deftly.
In addition to the speed and agility provided by her hookshot, League players will also find Camille’s Precision Protocol roundhouse kick employed. And of course, nobody forgets Kamille’s ultimate attack. Hextech Ultimatum. We had to adapt the Ultimatum’s barrier to work vertically, but the essence of Hextech trapping enemies in her matrix remains the same. In Camille’s art, we pushed her main features to the max. Deadly, tall, with bladed legs and refined Piltova elegance. As I mentioned earlier, the character design uses a triangle as a motif, and this is especially noticeable in Kamille’s sharp figure.
The role of jinx convergence She’s unique in that she basically serves as a distraction in Ekko’s quest to save Zaun. As her chaos agent, she does not help or directly hinder Echo, but her manic antics force Echo to stop her before continuing her adventures. Jinx has a lot of fans in the real world, so I had a feeling he might have a lot of fans in Runeterra as well.of convergence, Echo discovers that there is a new chain punk gang in town. Inks. Inx is sort of an unofficial fan club for Jinx, but as Echo finds out, Jinx isn’t too happy with the idea of a bunch of Chenpunks stealing her style… Agents of Good As a result, Echo is forced to intervene to stop Jinx. Wreak havoc on the Inks and thereby blow up Zaun and Piltover!
With all bosses present convergence, we put a lot of thought into making them distinctive, and part of that was making each one focused on either melee or bullet-based ranged attacks. Jinx naturally fell into the latter camp. All of her weapons in the League are featured. Zapper, Chompers, Fishbone, Paw Paw and of course Super Megadeth Rocket! We’ve also added a few surprises, such as a full-screen missile shower. Jinx’s character in her design based her Wild Her Rift on her design, while adding her signature cel shading and sharp lines.
It wasn’t realistic to include all of Zaun’s champions, but we did include an easter egg for each champion. Players may even find references to other champions besides Zaun.we are very proud convergence I can’t wait for players to experience it first hand.
