After a few years hiatus, the latest installment in the popular farming simulator series is finally coming to Nintendo Switch. Even though this kind of game is an acquired paradigm of taste, it invites players to “let the fun grow!” But to sow the seeds of generalization, most people can get a taste of farm life, even if it’s not for them. This digitization has eliminated early morning hours, heavy work, financial risks and smells, making niche genres more welcoming. Let’s delve into the meaning of this title.
Note that I have played other sims including farming sims but this is my first experience with this particular series. Therefore comparisons with previous versions are necessarily skipped. However, Farming Simulator 23 is priced at previous entryearly boot version The price was only $19.99. Therefore, it is important to independently evaluate whether the content is worth more than double the price.
As with many titles in this genre, it takes a fair amount of time to learn. We highly recommend taking advantage of the excellent tutorials and making full use of the help features, especially in the first few hours. Tutorial enhancements will be delivered through patches, and game tips will also be available throughout playtime. Luckily your animal is not left to die. They simply cease production. However, increasing yields in diverse crops takes patience and time, and there is no way around it. But if this game “grows” with you, don’t be surprised if a few single-digit hours turn into double-digit hours quickly.
When it comes to time, you have the flexibility to adjust the in-game clock in many ways. Realtime isn’t for everyone, but eight speed settings (from normal up to 90x) let you customize your title to the pace that works best for you. As promised, “There is always time for a relaxing stroll through the vast cultivated land, experiencing the visual changes that unfold with the seasons.” to A walk is the ideal way to get to know the different attractions that dot the vast game world.
For those who don’t want to roam around on virtual legs, there are plenty of rides you can invest in. It will take some time before even some of them are available for purchase, but the satisfaction of watching the collection grow is definitely rewarding. You can easily move between vehicles and let AI workers control the vehicles as you wish. From tractors and forestry machines of various sizes to seeders, the list goes on. There are also “technology” vehicles designed specifically for specific crops, which I found particularly noteworthy, especially for me, whose knowledge of agricultural machinery is no more than his John Deere.
Whether this sort of thing intrigues you may partly depend on your familiarity with other Sims. Despite its useful features for “beginners,” Farming Simulator 23 seems primarily designed to appeal to existing series fans, for better or worse. Without campaigns or specific scenario options, you can do whatever you want on your own device. However, even those with hard thumbs with controllers rather than hard thumbs with farming will still enjoy the immersive first-person view of each vehicle and the occasional enjoyment of off-the-beaten-path roads. Yes, everyone except my wife was tired of watching my tractor roll down a hill and into someone’s backyard.
It has the convenience of saving at any time, and auto-saves are also initiated periodically. Additionally, there are camera and control settings, colorblind modes, and other cool features that improve the overall experience. It’s a real shame that Farming Simulator 23 doesn’t offer an in-game radio like other Sims. It could have offered variety in its favor, especially given the game’s potential repetitiveness. However, even in a relatively quiet environment due to the atmosphere, earning achievements is always a welcome sight and provides even more satisfaction.
Farming Simulator 23 is a well-written title that also offers touch screen support for handheld players. However, this is the type of game you enjoy most when you’re in the mood. When the moment comes, it serves as a good way to relax, albeit somewhat repetitively. The game offers many incentives to keep players engaged, including two different environments. And many more improvements will be made through patches. If you’re a fan of the genre, Farming Simulator 23 will be a satisfying choice despite its lack of music.
