Mortal Kombat 1’s Ed Boone has confirmed that the door isn’t closed for Injustice 3.
IGN had a chance to speak with Boon, and given that the studio has alternated between Mortal Kombat and Injustice since the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013, Mortal Kombat 11 will be followed by another Mortal Kombat title. I asked about NetherRealm’s decision to develop the game.
“There were a lot of factors, some of which you can talk about and some you shouldn’t,” Boone said.
Two reasons Boone was happy to discuss were the unfortunate outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the team’s choice to switch to a newer version of the Unreal game engine (Mortal Kombat 11 is based on Unreal It runs on Engine 3, whereas Mortal Kombat 1 runs on Unreal Engine) 4).
“But we adopted a new graphics engine, Unreal,” Boone said. “We really wanted to be careful with COVID-19 and things like that to make sure everyone was safe. Let’s make a game of, and hopefully go back to Injustice.’ ‘ ‘
Just to be sure, I wanted to confirm directly with him that the door to the Injustice series was not closed.
“No,” Boone replied.
Injustice: Gods Among Us was released in 2013 and its sequel, Injustice 2, was released in 2017. A review of Injustice 2 said, “Faster, deeper action and rich content make this DC Heroes fighting game feel great.”
When it comes to Mortal Kombat 1, set to launch on September 19th, 2023, we got a brutal new perspective on the actual game and new cameo systems at the Summer Game Fest. We also had the chance to get hands-on experience with Mortal Kombat 1, and while the gameplay was fairly familiar, we thought it had some interesting differences from Mortal Kombat 11.
