Combining XCOM-like structure with random events inspired by tabletop RPGs, Wildermyth is designed to tell a great fantasy story. It’s fun to watch heroes grow, fall in love, acquire magical treasures and discover ancient secrets. But the most fun is when his head in one of them is replaced with that of a wolf.
Certain key events during a campaign can trigger what Wildermyth calls a hero’s “transformation”. Be cursed by a witch, have growing crystals implanted in your eyes, or feel the call of the spirits of the primordial forest, these events leave a permanent imprint on your protagonist, turning him into both more and less human. It can also be changed to that of It’s so exciting to see one of her characters suddenly become a werewolf and some of them become fire spirits. Dungeon He’s like indulging in outrageous nonsense like the one his master always said “no” to.
Transformation doesn’t happen all at once. They replace body parts piece by piece over time. A lot of them start at the head, which is great. It’s wonderfully goofy when the party’s newly “clawtouched” chariot suddenly has a large feathery face, a giant beak, and an appropriately surprised look.
This adds a nice layer to the game’s already rich narrative tapestry. The transformed hero is instantly memorable, and his increasingly bizarre presence in scenes throughout the story lends a wonderfully offbeat feel to any campaign. And it also offers new fun toys to play with during combat. Many transformed pieces give you new abilities, traits, and attacks. A fighter with huge wings can leap high in the air. How do you use it and build around it? It’s a lot of fun to know.
Most conversions are optional. It’s usually a well-informed choice whether or not to get a conversion, and it’s usually up to you whether to proceed with the conversion during the downtime between adventures. But it might as well be a duty for me. Because I wouldn’t in a million years deny one of my heroes the right to literally own a weapon. As far as I’m concerned, Wildermyth’s goal is to make as many adventurers look as weird as possible. Wait until you find a way to give the wizard a frog head to save the kingdom.
It’s the first DLC for the game, so it’s clear that the developers are of the same mind as me.armor and skins– We’ve added tons of alternate looks for transformations, so you can enjoy even more variety in your adventurous freak show.
