A luxurious escape room with DLC in the palm of your hand.
Escape Academy, an escape room adventure, has been a staple of my partner ever since it hit Xbox Game Pass. A humorous multi-layered puzzle set on a college campus and unique characters coming to Nintendo Switch this year. We had the chance to get hands-on experience at Summer Games Fest and the upcoming DLC ”Escape to”. past.
Escape to the Past is set in a 1950s diner, jukebox and more. Beyond the intimate atmosphere, this diner has all the decor of old-fashioned booths, bright signs, and patterned tiles. In this level, as a chef, you feed your familiar young school staff and deliver them in a small train that runs along the tracks. In keeping with the rest of the game, problem-solving has a clear logic, guided by baby steps and bite-sized puzzles that chain together to open the next door.
Playing iam8bit on PC, then watching 10 minutes of iam8bit previews on Switch, it’s easy to find some compromises. The visuals seemed a little lacking in clarity, partly due to running on a Switch lite. Additionally, frame rate performance is significantly slower, but stable. Considering the timing of each level, this is a blessing. That said, it has been translated to Switch in a fully playable state.
Escape Academy: The Complete Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch in Q4 2023. If you love solving puzzles, love escape rooms, or have played Escape Academy on other platforms, you should try both Escape to the Past DLC and Complete Edition.
