The ESA has responded to reports that both E3 2024 and E3 2025 have been cancelled. The group said it had not made any concrete decisions about what the future of the Games would be.
What does ESA say about E3 2024 and E3 2025?
A memo from the Los Angeles Tourism Board meeting parcel was found online this week. I found an overview of the upcoming city meetings. There was also a mention of “E3 canceled for 2024 and 2025”.
According to E3 owner Entertainment Software Association (via) VGC), the group is discussing the future of E3.
“ESA is currently in discussions for E3 2024 (and beyond), but no final decisions regarding the event have been made at this time,” the statement read.
The future of E3 has been up in the air for the past few years. Although not held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, E3 2021 is now an online-only event. E3 2022 has since been canceled due to ongoing concerns about the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
E3 2023 was scheduled to run from June 13-16, 2023, but was canceled by organizer ReedPop, citing a lack of “sustained interest”.
“It simply failed to attract the sustained attention necessary to perform in a manner that demonstrated the scale, strength and influence of our industry,” the group claimed.
With the future of E3 uncertain, a wealth of other events emerged in the meantime. Geoff Keighley’s rival event, Summer Game Fest, took place on June 8, 2023. Ubisoft, Microsoft, Sony, and others all had their own shows this May or June of this year.
