Gaming peripherals company Razer has launched a new gaming mouse series with the Cobra Pro, a premium-style wireless mouse, and the Cobra, a more basic wired version using the same overall design.Currently available at Razer Store and on Amazon Retail prices are US$130 and US$40 respectively.
The Cobra now sits alongside Razer’s already extensive line of gaming mice, including Deathadder, Viper and Basilisk. However, this new mouse aims to have the high-end features of other top-of-the-line mice while covering a range of tastes that the lineup has yet to offer. In terms of grip type and shape, the Cobra Mouse has a symmetrical design intended to be gripped with your fingertips or nails. Find out more about the Razer Cobra Pro and Cobra below.
Razer Cobra Pro (Wireless) Details
The Razer Cobra Pro is on the high end of the spectrum when it comes to gaming mice. It has a MSRP of $130 USD, but it packs a lot of fancy features. It uses Razer’s HyperSpeed wireless technology to minimize latency (with a 2.4 GHz connection). The mouse can be used via Bluetooth or wired with a USB-C cable. Cobra Pro features Chroma RGB lighting, designed to give an underglow around the mouse base, logo and scroll wheel, customizable with Razer Synapse software.
Functionally, the Cobra Pro uses the company’s proprietary Focus Pro 30K optical sensor for precise tracking. Mice typically have a standard 1000 Hz polling rate, but you can get a Hyperpolling wireless dongle (additional cost of $15) to enable a 4000 Hz polling rate. You also get a total of 10 programmable inputs (including 2 side buttons) and 5 customization profiles that can be saved in the mouse.
As for battery life, Razer says the Cobra Pro can last up to 100 hours using a 2.4 GHz connection and up to 170 hours using Bluetooth. Cobra Pro can be wirelessly charged using Razer’s own Wireless Charging Dock or Mouse Dock Pro (both sold separately). Relatively lightweight for a wireless mouse, weighing just 77 grams / 2.72 ounces.
Razer Cobra (Wired) Details
The standard Razer Cobra is a wired USB mouse with the same design, but with fewer features. However, the price is much more affordable at just US$40. However, there are other important differences as well. It has eight programmable inputs and uses a more standard 8500 DPI optical sensor. And since it’s a wired mouse, it has a polling rate of “just” 1000 Hz (which is standard for most high-end gaming mice). The RGB lighting is trimmed a bit and the underglow is applied only around the palm of the mouse. With no battery, the Wired Cobra weighs just 58 grams / 2.04 ounces (without cable).
