Every year, Fortnite’s Summer event is one of the game’s biggest and most beloved attractions, and this year’s Summer Escape event could bring even more of the same frenzy. Map change: Sunsoon Lagoon
A new temporary party headquarters has emerged in the midst of this season’s jungle biome. Sunsoon Lagoon will be on the island until he July 18th when the event ends. While much of the season is built around opening seemingly ancient vaults and introducing Transformers to the catch-all mythology of Phonetight, the Loopers seem ready to relax for a few days. .
Gameplay Changes: Ice Cream Buff and Fireworks Flare Gun Returns
If you’ve been to Fortnite’s past summer events, you’re likely familiar with the ice cream cone item, a line-up of different flavors that grant other buffs like heals and low-gravity jumps. All the flavors of the freezer are back in the form of normal ice cream cones, frozen ice cream cones, guzzle ice cream cones, spicy ice cream cones and Lil’ whip special serves.
In addition, the Flare Gun has also been renewed, adding a summer-only fireworks effect that fires into the sky. Now you can ping your enemies or enjoy a light show. Or why not enjoy both?
Summer Escape Challenge and free cosmetics
It wouldn’t be a Fortnite event without a bundle of in-game quests that hand out dozens of new character decorations, including back glitter and gliders. Summer Escape offers nine free rewards for completing a series of challenges during the two-week event. They are sorted into different categories, with new sets available every few days. Here is the schedule:
- Queche Quest: Rolling Out July 4th – 7th
- Lagoon Party Quest: Rolling out July 8th – 11th
- Create Entry Quests: Gradual availability from July 12th to 16th
In addition to Universal XP rewards, players will unlock the Nanners Wrap in the first set, the Treezy Back Bling in the second set, and the Blossoms Drop Contrail in the third set. Additionally, when accumulating quest completions across the event, 14 completed quests will give you Wild Frond’s back glow, 18 completed quests will give you the Bugsy Glider, Toasted Coconut emote (inspired by Leo DiCaprio’s GIF of him). Got it) and Lagoon Escape and much more will be unlocked. A loading screen with 24 completed quests.
And if that’s not enough, you can get even more free rewards by completing certain (and very simple) quests.

Summer Showdown in Creative Mode

New Summer Skins and Fortnite Crew Bonuses
Two more skins have also been revealed for this summer’s event item shop. Opal is an entirely new character in lore. Chaos His Explorer, a reimagining of his previous deep-sea diving-themed character, will appear in the Item Shop for the duration of the event. Summer events of the past few years have also featured his skins, such as the popular Beach He Midas and Beach His Joules.
The Purradise Meowscles challenge, the latest Mid-Season Battle Pass skin, will also be revealed during the event, giving Battle Pass owners even more challenges to chase and unlock cosmetics. Fortnite Crew members, meanwhile, unlock an exclusive bonus item, the Nanna Buddy Back Bling.
When will Fortnite Summer Escape end?
This year’s summer party ends today July 18 at 6am PT / 9am ET. Be sure to complete the related quests by then. Once the event ends, the quest disappears from the game and the ability to unlock cosmetics associated with it disappears.
