Assassinâs Creed Shadows delayed as Ubisoft looks at âpotential paths to generate valueâ of its assets
First reported by Bloombergâs Jason Schreier, Ubisoft released a statement from Vice President Executive Producer of the Assassinâs Creed franchise Marc-Alexis CotĂ© regarding Assassinâs Creed Shadowsâ delay.
âEach week has brought valuable feedback from our community,â reads CotĂ©âs statement. âWhile weâve already made remarkable strides, we believe a few additional weeks are needed to implement that feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience.â
âAccordingly, the new release date is March 20, 2025,â continues the statement. âWe remain committed to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience-fostered by ongoing dialogue between our players and development teams.â
In a separate âStrategic updateâ press release from Ubisoft, the company is making some significant changes to its business operationally to hopefully retain its value.
Part of this is to âdrive significant cost reductions, together with a highly selective approach to investments.â XDefiantâs cancelation and recent studio closures were part of this initiative.
Assassinâs Creed Shadowsâ delay into March is part of the companyâs ârenewed focusâ on quality. As such, an extra month was added to the gameâs development to make improvements based on player feedback.
The statement also suggest the company is considering a sale.
âUbisoft announced today that it has appointed leading advisors to review and pursue various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders,â reads Ubisoftâs press release.
âWe have taken decisive steps to reshape the Group in order to deliver best-in-class player experiences, enhance operational efficiency and maximize value creation,â said Ubisoft co-founder Yves Guillemot. âWe also recently appointed leading advisors and are actively exploring various strategic and capitalistic options to unlock the full value potential of our assets. We are convinced that there are several potential paths to generate value from Ubisoftâs assets and franchises.â
