I think I would’ve liked “Nintendo Switched”
As if to spite all the rumor-mongers and leakers, Nintendo today officially unveiled the Nintendo Switch 2 with a 2025 release in a decidedly āmehā manner. Check out the first-look trailer and let us know if you agree.
Physically, thereās not a whole lot in there that hasnāt been spoiled recently on social media. The video highlights the size difference and the enhanced support stand, and spends a lot of time on Joy-Con connectivity. Itās like Nintendo said, āYouāre leaking the boring stuff, antsy pants. Weāre saving what really matters until April.ā
Specifically, April 2nd, when the company will run a Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo Direct. Immediately thereafter, theyāll host a hands-on Nintendo Switch 2 Experience at the following locations and dates:

- Los Angeles, April 11-13, 2025
- Dallas, April 25-27, 2025
- Toronto, April 25-27, 2025
Europe:
- Paris, April 4-6, 2025

What games will be playable at these events? Well, a new Mario Kart, based on the first-look trailer. Weāll undoubtedly get more gaming news in the April 2nd Nintendo Direct. In the meantime, be sure youāve got your Nintendo account in working order if you plan to attend.

The other big news is the confirmation that, āNintendo Switch 2 plays Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games, as well as both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.ā However, certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.ā What and why will be made clear down the road.
